If you could house swap, would you?

Asked by Unbroken (10751points) December 1st, 2012

This started out as a wishful house swap for me because I was wishing to avoid family for Christmas as well as the weather. But it would be interesting to see how many people would be willing to do it and what their ads would look like.

Here is mine:
Willing to house swap. Small but cheerful two bedroom in Fairbanks Alaska, just 11 miles from North Pole.
Snow snowboarding, skiing, dog mushing, ice skating and hockey.
If you plan it right you might get here in time for the winter solsitce!
Right now the temperature is -30 F but not to fret it is usually a balmy -10 to -15 below for Christmas. Show your kids what it is like to have snow for Christmas.

Ummm… I love snow and winter, but sub-zero is too cold for even me. Thanks anyway!!

I’ve never experienced snow so it would be cool and stuff.
I don’t do too well in like temperatures below 50F though.

I’ll trade! We never get snow on Christmas. Last year, we didn’t get any snow at all. We love snow, although it does sound a little colder than anything the kids have experienced yet. You’re probably going to need to bring a few friends, though, because just one person in this house is going to feel a bit lonely.

I hate snow in real life. Pictures are great, but cold is bad.

How enterprising of you! It’s worth reaching for a larger market if you’re serious. As for me, I grew up with plenty of snow and the experience would not be unique.

That sounds like the worst kind of hell for me.

Not NO but HELL NO! I don’t care what the temp is or if there is sun, snow on the ground, even in the shadows, I am outta there.

We get snow and cold here in Illinois, but not always at Christmas. It’s in the 60s here today and it feels more like spring then it does December. I’m a snow and cold lover. Bring it!

Not even to escape the dreaded family member? Who would chase you to the near arctic?
@jonsblond 60’s is the perfect temp. How many children do you have again?
@wundayatta Little short notice to bring anyone.

I live in Palmer Alaska, and this is the first time in my life that it did not snow before December!

Hah….well, I am in the Sierra foothills about an hour form Lake Tahoe. I already get the best of both worlds. Some snow here, a foot and a half or so on occasion, otherwise a couple to 6 inches now and then.
I am only a short hop from the big snow by just a few thousand more feet.

I’m good, I like fun snow but not dig yourself out every day for 4 months snow.
No thanks! :-)

@rosehips I don’t need chasing. I’d love to visit. (hell for me would be Florida) I’m also blessed with some pretty decent family members. :) I have two sons in college and a daughter in 3rd grade.

@AshLeigh Nice we Fairbanksians had a bit of warmer winter up til now.

@Coloma I am jealous.

@jonsblond Sounds lovely. I have no idea why you feel that way about AK. I was half serious and wishing. I would love to but I haven’t requested the time off work. Next year we can plan in advance. : )

@rosehips I know what sub 30 below zero feels like. It’s bearable dressed right, but it’s cold. I like snow usually. As long as it’s not 6 feet or more.

AshLeigh's avatar

@rosehips, we’ve just had wind. A lot of wind. And fires.
Almost being evacuated is exciting. >.<

wundayatta's avatar

@rosehips Well never mind. Just come and visit. We’ve got a guest room. You can go see the Liberty Bell. Although, seriously, Philly is not so great in winter time. It’s mostly dreary, although there are lots of plays and music and other entertainments.

@AshLeigh I used to live in King Salmon I know what wind and wet cold is about. Amazing but it zaps you after awhile. Glad you are still enjoying.
@Adirondackwannabe Well it’s -35 below right now. Yes it’s bearable. But really… Frozen cars, getting dressed like a bear, and well grumpy!!!
@wundayatta lol always wanted to see Liberty Bell, it’s not the first place on my to go places though, sadly.
