Was the Life of Pi really that great of a movie?

Originally I wasn’t interested in watching a movie about a boy stuck on a boat with a tiger for a decent 2 hours. Then I constantly heard of how “it was actually a good movie.”
While trying to keep an open mind during the movie I still felt like it was a drag and was bored the entire time. Why is it that some find this plot so amazing?

Looking forward to the sequel The Life of Cake…sweet!
This might be my favorite movie of the year. It really is that good!
It scores 88% on the Tomato-meter (fresh, not rotten). Personally I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars.
The book is not good. I can’t imagine the movie would be much better.
@filmfann Interesting, I found it hard to keep my eyes open.
@Wine I found it hard to keep my mouth shut. So many images made my jaw drop.
SPOLIER ALERT!!!!
It was visually fantastic, but I also found it to be a little slow and I rarely say that about movies (even the ones that most people complain about being too slow). I also didn’t understand how the story would make anyone believe in God. There is a line in the story where the main character says “And so it is with God.” I didn’t understand what he meant by that – that we believe in God because it is a better story??
@tinyfaery You didn’t like the book ? Everyone else I know thought it was mesmerizing (me too).
I haven’t seen the movie yet but my wife liked it.
