Are you a lurve fairy, a lurve hog or do you feel like you give it out at a medium pace (for lack of a better term)?

Asked by Self_Consuming_Cannibal (4269points) December 28th, 2012

I guess to be more specific do you just go from page to page assigning lurve to everything you see or do you not give it out or do you only give it out to people you like and/or deserve it?

Probably medium leaning towards generous.

Giving lurve has nothing to do with whether I like a jelly. I give lurve for good questions and answers. I don’t even always agree with the poster, but if it is a good argument—5 points. On my own questions I usually am especially generous with giving lurve to jellies who answer.

I’m a lurve whore, I give it as much as I can. I get so mad I can’t give more lurve! I’m a lurver not a hater.

@JLeslie That’s how I am too. Even if I’m debating with someone on an issue, if they’re being respectful and actually coherent in their arguement I will give someone lurve. If they start being disrespectful though, I don’t give it. And as for my questions I generally give everyone who answers my question whether it be a silly or serious answer, some lurve.

@Shippy I do wish at times I could give more lurve, especially for a really impressive, creative or funny question or answer.

I used to give lurve quite freely. I am far more selective now. I will give it for quality answers and questions. Sometimes I read something, think it’s a fabulous answer, but forget to give lurve. I often go back and do it later when I remember. I think people get a bit too wound up about lurve though and it can be used against people. That’s pretty sad when I see a whole thread with one person’s answer with no lurve. Especially when their answer is just as good as the answers preceding it. I also think if you ask a question, you should give everyone lurve. It’s just good manners.

@Bellatrix I so agree on that. I have seen brilliant answers with nothing. The person took the time to write out a carefully thought out reply. So I try to be the lurv police now!

@Bellatrix I agree about giving everyone who answers your question lurve. I also try and remember to give lurve to any questions I answer. If I feel it’s interesting enough for me to try and answer it deserves my lurve.

I don’t know how I would define “people I like” here – generally I tend to assume I’m seeing only a small part of who any given jelly is from their responses on fluther. There are “people I often agree with” and “people I often disagree with”, but I tend to give lurve according to whether I agree with specific answers (or whether they make me think or laugh), rather than whether I have agreed with them on other topics in the past.

It depends on my mood, some days I give out more lurve than others. I give lurve to well considered answers that add to the discussion, to answers that agree with how I feel on issues and to humorous answers.

I’m a generous sort myself, but discriminating. I sometimes do give GA’s to new people to help build their lurve, unless their answers are completely ridiculous.
I always give lurve for a great sense of humor and creative answers as well.
I like to see people that can play a little and aren’t always deadly serious, stick in the mud types.

I’m probably stingier than I should be. I give lurve for helpful answers to my own questions, and +1 anyone that makes me laugh or think.

On questions I ask, I give lurve to every reasonable answer. Otherwise, I give it to good answers.

Give it every time I get the chance

I lurve most answers on a question that I answer if I think they answer the question. I also give GQs to questions that I would love to know the answer to or are too complex for me to know the answer to. I only really give lurve in the general and meta sections because I feel like a useful answer is more important than a comedic one.
In spirit of lurve, the amount of total lurve you (@Self_Consuming_Cannibal) had showed up as 2 stars. I returned to this page and it went back to 2183. Did anyone else catch that?

@dxs I guess I’m a little slow, can you explain your whispered statement to me a bit better? I guess I just mean more detail on what exactly happened.

I give GA’s to anyone who made a good point that I’d never thought of before. Or if I think it’s funny.

I’m mostly a fairy ;)

Left-handed Tuesdays make jack a dull lurver. Fortunately, left-handed Mondays come twice in a blue sun. Vigorous stirring helps.

Paradox25's avatar

I’m much more selective with lurve than I used to be since I want my GA/GQ votes to actually count as points/lurve for very quality responses. I’m not selective with GA/GQ votes according to who the user is, but according to what their response is.

@Self_Consuming_Cannibal It was probably not worth mentioning, but I found it really weird. Here is what I saw (your lurve count was at 2):

Are you a lurve fairy, a lurve hog or do you feel like you give it out at a medium pace (for lack of a better term)?
