Prime example of an oxymoron: favorite country song.

I am a city boy, so it is hard to answer, not knowing what country people consider “real” country.

I will listen to anything Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tammy Wynette, or Roy Orbison. Taylor Swift is fine. Shaina Twain, fine. Kenny Rogers, fine. But I have not heard anything recently that has struck me as having crossover appeal.

And I acknowledge Johnny Cash is a god.

I am not a big country fan but someone on here said it was all terrible. I can find music that I like in every genre. @wundayatta What do you like as far as music is concerned?

wundayatta's avatar

I like the music I make, which probably sounds like world music to most people.

I am not a fan of country at all, but yes, Old Johnny Cash, Ray Orbison and Marty Robbins are great.

Taylor Swift has grown on me thanks to my 8 year old daughter. I’ll listen to Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash, but those are the only names I can think of right now. I used to be one of those music snobs that said they listened to everything but country, but then I gave it a chance and actually found a few artists that aren’t that bad.

Ghost Riders in the Sky, Johnny Cash. Apparently, he didn’t write it. An old man taught him the song when Cash was a kid. If that’s true, that song is even more badass.

I like the modern sort of country, there is a guy in Australia name of Steve Ford, I like his stuff, I love anything by Keith Urban and some of Garth’s. My husband is a country music fan so we listen to a lot and I have learned to like most of it! (but Keith is my favourite!)

I love Reba! I’m also a fan of Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood. It would be hard to choose a favourite song though. I love God Bless The Broken Road by Rascal Flats.

Too many specific sogs to list, but I can talk about artists. I love:

• Lyle Lovett
• Alison Krause
• Ryan Adams
• The Civil Wars
• Little Big Town

The last group is basically a straight country act, but the rest
Mix in jazz, bluegrass, rock, pop, and folk into their music. They’re sort of genre bending. I like that a lot.

I don’t really like country music, but I like Johnny Cash because my dad used to play his music when I was younger.

It is either Juice Newton, Queen of Hearts, or Shania Twain, Black Eyes Blue Tears.

JenniferP's avatar

@poisonedantidote I loved Juice Newton. I also like that song by Charlie Rich “Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world.”

I like some types of country music but I don’t know how to find it!

I was alert enough to pick up on Jason Aldean, though. “She’s Country” is on heavy rotation on my iPod.

What country category are his songs assigned to?

For the first time in recorded history i’m in complete agreement with @wundayatta

I have a few that have moved me lately. Hell yeah by Montgomery Gentry , The Climb by Miley Cyrus , and Wanted by Hunter Hayes .

A favorite of mine is Amazed by LoneStar .

SOOO many!

I love pretty much anything by Jason Aldean. I’m also a huge Rascal Flatts fan.

I love those heartbreaking songs like You Can Let Go Now Daddy by Crystal Shawanda, Concrete Angel by Martina McBride, and Please Remember Me by Tim McGraw.

My current favorites are Cruise by Florida Georgia Line and Two Black Cadillacs by Carrie Underwood.

I can’t stand old country. Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and George Jones just don’t do it for me.

Almost anything by Garth, Reba, and Toby Keith. I also like a lot by Johnny Cash and Wynona Judd. One of my all-time favorites is I Feel Lucky by Mary Chapin-Carpenter.

JenniferP's avatar

The Judds had some nice songs in the 80’s. I haven’t followed Wynonna though.

I like a great deal of country from the 1970’s and 1980’s. Ronnie Milsap, Conway Twitty and Kenny Rogers sang several songs that I love. Crystal Gayle’s “don’t it make make my brown eyes blue” comes to mind. I like some of the newer artists as well such as Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill and Martina McBride. I love Jamie O’Neal, and one of her hits “somebody’s hero” is also one of my all time favorites. There are too many songs for me to write in here.

JenniferP's avatar

Crystal Gayle had a beautiful voic. i also like “Talking in your sleep.”

I like more of the new country that has a dancing beat to it. The old country was a bit too twangy for me. Some old artists I like are: Garth, Shania, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krause (but I think she sings more Folk music), Tim MGraw, Faith Hill and Lonestar.

BTW, I don’t care for Mylie Cyrus’ voice, but her song “the climb” has helped me lately. Great words for tough times!

Some new artists that I like to listen to are: Carrie Underwood, some Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban.

I like some of the Dixie Chicks.

Another great act I just discovered (thank you Pandora) are the Wailin’ Jennys.
