(Yes, this question was asked in Jan. 2009, but a lot could’ve changed by now.)
So, I downloaded the Spotify app to my iPad. When I launched the app, it said that my “free trial” period was 48 hrs; to continue after that, I would need “Spotify Premium”. On the pop-up notice, there was only an “OK” button. So, to dismiss the pop-up, you have to click “OK”.
But I’m interested in the service only if it’s free (supported by advertising is OK). I don’t listen to internet radio all that much anyway, and especially not on an iPad.
If I click OK and go to Spotify Premium, am I going to be automatically charged $$? I have some $$ credits loaded in the app store. Is it going to automatically deduct from my account?
Has anyone had any experience with this?

Spotify has a free ad-supported version that will run on your pc or mac. But if you want to run it on a mobile device (that includes iPad), you need to pay a monthly fee ($9.99/mo).
Entirely correct, @tom_g. The “Premium” package is what allows you to use Spotify on devices other than a PC/Mac.
I am not sure about the billing practices as I do not use it, and my wife only does so from our PC though.
May I recommend an alternative? TuneIn Radio is cross-platform and utterly free. I use it on my Android devices, but there is an iOS version as well.
If you are only looking for a radio, Spotify isn’t what you want anyhow. Their radio feature is actually pretty bad. But it’s an amazing program overall, it’s essentially a music library you have access to that includes mostly everything you’d ever search for. I actually pay for premium which is only 10 bucks a month and I really only use it on my computer….I have it on my phone too, so that’s my ipod, and I’ve entirely cast out iTunes. I am a huge Spotify fan and always encourage people to use it. It’s really well worth it. Great for sharing too.
Mine won’t charge me anything without warning me first – “Would you like to purchase Spottify Premium for $9.99?” and then it requires me to type in my iTunes password, just like when I buy songs or other apps.
If you don’t want to pay, why not get iHeartRadio? It’s basically the same thing, for free.
OK, thank you all for your answers. And thank you, @jerv and @livelaughlove21 for suggesting alternatives. I’ll check ‘em out!
