What is wrong with my neck?
I’ve been getting these strange acne-type marks on my neck recently. They are basically large pimples but they don’t seem to contain any pus. They just look like a mound of skin. It’s confusing because I don’t have acne anywhere else (other than the odd spot on my face, rarely). I only get one at a time and I’ve only had two or three of these “things”. Does anyone know what it could be?

See a doctor but is could be acne.
Anything like that should always be checked out. There are so many viruses that cause skin irritants that you have to make sure, sometimes they’re a pre-cursor to a serious health issue and sometimes just something that goes away.
It could easily be something in the collar of your shirt/blouse that is causing an allergic reaction. Either there’s something innate in the fabric (or fabric treatment), or potentially the detergent you are using in not washing completely out of the neck and the collar.
Another remote possibility is that your pillowcase wasn’t rinsed completely when you did the wash last time, and is carrying some residual soap in it.
Did you try on any Christmas gifts before they were washed? My brother tried on a bathing suit when he was you. He developed a similar reaction. It was from the suit.
Do the welts itch? I sometimes get an eczema rash on my neck, but only during wintertime and only when I’m under stress.
Sorry, forgot the ng on young.
There is a type of acne called cystic acne. My son has it on his neck and it is similar to what you describe. It occurs very deep in the skin, so you don’t see a head like you do with other forms of acne. It would be best to see a dermatologist to be sure this is what you have and to discuss treatment options. Over-the-cointer topical treatments don’t do much. My son hasn’t had much success with prescription treatments, either; but his dad had lots of skin problems too, so it seems hereditary in his case. You might respond better than he has. Good luck!
Others have suggested you should see a dermatologist. That is the best advice. Self medication is a very bad idea. It does not seem serious, but peace of mind is important, and you are much more likely to get it from professional help. Hope you have a problem-free, stressless 2013.
Yes… Self medication can make things worse…. See your doctor… It doesn’t sound like anything to worry about though…. All the best…
Second guessing won’t make it go away…
@PaulSadieMartin No, they don’t itch at all. The first one I got is still on my neck. I really do not think it’s acne, because it just feels like a bump of skin that was slightly red initially.
I should have mentioned that I have very sensitive/pale skin. I have also experienced bouts of dermatitis as an allergic reaction (last time it was from my dusty-false Christmas tree).
