Are there any old-school Answerbag refugees on here?
About 5 years ago answerbag completely changed and many members were really unhappy with the changes and I know quite a few of them came here. I was one of them.

Yes, I was on that site and came here at the end of 2009 when the big change happened.
Guilty as charged. Meet “Jim in a Nautilus COAT” of Answerbag fame—or whatever its opposite might be. I’m pretty sure infamous is a word but infame is not.
Never heard of answerbag…..it sounds obscene.haha
@ETpro So you were one of the “COAT” members huh? Are you a member of any special interest groups on here?
I’m just Brian at Canswerbag.
About 3 years ago, CB got drunk and then attempted to perform plastic surgery on itself. As a result of that, users temporarily lost the ability to customize their names at will. I think they can now, but I haven’t bothered to.
@Hawaii_Jake Your old questions and answers should still be there. At least mine are.
@ETpro The Q and A may be there, but I changed the account name and made it anonymous.
Has it been 5 years?
Wow.
Hardly remember what it was like, though I remember being extremely disappointed that the site changed so drastically.
A prime example of ”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
@SABOTEUR Amen to that. And when you are determined to fix it anyway, “First do no harm.” In their redesign, they not only introduced a huge new learning curve for existing users, they built a degraded GUI that made the learning curve an utter waste of time.
@ETpro Fortunately, Fluther offered us refuge. It’s funny thinking about it now ‘cause the first thing some migrating ABers did was try to remake Fluther into AB.
How the hell do you enter someone else’s home and try to rearrange the furniture?
Good things they didn’t toss us immediately out on our ears.
@SABOTEUR The fact they didn’t give the whole lot of us the old heave-ho is a testament to the patience and human caring that the core Fluther collective had back then and retains today.
@ETpro You’re right. A few of those jellies seemed to bend over backwards to welcome us despite our “misbehavior”.
I was there and migrated here after AB started munching out on ass all day. Had the same username there, although for a while I changed it to ’‘Chainsaw’’.
Well, we did make a special “vent” chatroom for you guys so you wouldn’t muck up the homepage with shit about AB.
I left AB in 2009, same username there as here, although I wasn’t a very prolific or well-known user.
@johnpowell (laughing) That you did, my friend! Directed all the orphans to the storage closet they could lick their wounds in private.
Good strategy, by the way!
(still laughing)
That was a dramatic time here at Fluther… I don’t think it was 5 years ago, though.
Fluther was the first Q&A site I came across after giving up on Yahoo Answers once it went public – not that I looked for another, to be honest.
I remember when everyone came over from AB. It was the beginning of December in 2009. I remembered the date because I was celebrating my first year anniversary here at Fluther. It was dramatic @hearkat. Fluther did gain some good members from AB. I’m glad they stayed. =)
I was forced here against my will by two bearded, burly ladies from minsk.
Anything’s better than wankerbag though, so here I stayed.
@johnpowell LOL I remember it. Because there was like 12 AB threads that popped up like every three hours.
“infamy, infamy, they all have it infamy” Julius Caesar babbling on about the ides of march.
Also an AB refugee. “Lady Alathia of Vulcan” was my name.
@Seek_Kolinahr The Trek movie.
The raised eyebrow was a dead giveaway.
Ha ha. No.
If it had been a true universe movie instead of the newfangled re-creation, I’d go for the silver screen. But I’ll always see Peter Jackson + Tolkien in a theatre.
Facsinating.
Glad I didn’t bet my life on it.
@SABOTEUR I completely agree with the “If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it logic.”
@ETpro I did get the old “heave ho” for two years, but then I wrote the staff a letter and asked if I could come back and they agreed but they told me they would be watching me.
@Self_Consuming_Cannibal Reminds me of an old Flip Wilson joke…Good Enough and Bad Enough have been accused of harassing Well Enough. After listening to the case, the judge throws the book at Good Enough and Bad Enough.
“Judge…why you bein’ so hard on us?!” they exclaim.
The judge replies:
“I’m just tryin’ to teach you to leave Well Enough alone!”
@SABOTEUR Ineresting joke. Bye the way congradulations on making the 10k club.
I am still here… I can’t remember anyone from the old answer bag other than the anonymous witch, and fiddle creole bastard. it’s been to long.
@talljasperman Nunya first told me about her discovery of Fluther as an alternative to the ailing Answerbag. But then she left for some other site she’d found. I miss HasntBeen too. He went back to Answerbag, I believe.
I miss philosopher_saint.
