When I was a kid “she’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
and she’s dancing like she never danced before” conjured up images of a woman with arms and legs flailing as she attempts to dance for the first time.
I thought it was “highway to the night sound” instead of “highway to the danger zone” for years.
I’m sure I’ll think of some more examples. What are some of yours?

“meet me in the club i am going down” (it’s actually “meet me in the club you’re going down”)
“Shake it like a sausage!!” (it’s actually “shake it like a salt shaker”)
“Rompe rompe rompe LET ME OUT” (that’s wrong too, but i still can’t remember the real lyrics)
all three times…....I was mortally embarrassed because i happened to say it in front of many other people.
wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night… Blinded by the light.
I just don’t get it.
judochop: I’d forgotten about that one; totally agree. I still don’t know what the actual lyric is.
Bah! I even did a search before asking this question.
Looks like there is also this one.
A lot of people think Jimi Hendrix says “scuse me while I kiss this guy” instead of “kiss the sky” in Purple Haze.
My favorite is still Michael Jackson going: “but the chair is not my son” in Billy Jean…....
When I was little I thought “Macho Man” went “nacho nacho man, I want to meet the nacho man.”
I thought CCR was singing about “the bathroom on the right”
search “misunderstood lyrics – chiodos” on youtube, there is a whole video about it
Take me back to the 1960’s,
Where the grass is smoked,
And the girls are hippies,
Oh, won’t you please, take me home,
Yeah-e-yeah-eh!
This is so embarrassing. In the song “Do you ears hang low,” when I was a kid I thought one of the lines was “Can you throw them over your shoulder like a cotton-handled soldier” instead of continental soldier.
@judochop It’s “Wrapped up like a douche another RUMOR in the night…” Make sense now? (Me either)
