Does Lego parts come with extras?

I just started assembling my first ever Lego kit of a StarWars X-Wing fighter and realized I finished a section with a few tiny parts remaining. I’m quite sure I did not miss anything in the instructions so I’m wondering why there are still a few small parts in the plastic bag. I would hate to dismantle just to make sure. Thanks for your help. : )
