Can you name some people who will not soon be forgotten?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21680points) January 5th, 2013

I have recently started to collect stamps again as a hobby, and also as kind of an investment for once I’m bored of it.

I have chosen to collect stamps related to science, and stamps that show people who had a big impact on the world. People who everyone knows, and who will not soon be forgotten by history.

So far, I have some stamps that show Adolf Hitler, and Albert Einstein. That is more or less the level of importance and impact I am looking for the people to have, people who changed the world forever, for good or bad.

Thanks.

Gandhi is probably a good candidate.

Symbeline, too.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Few people, as individuals, have been so instrumental in bringing about lasting social change. His martyrdom in death only adds power to his image as a revolutionary.

@poisonedantidote Kinda random but bro, how much is a Bluenose stamp worth? Do you know? I liked stamps when I was young and always wanted a Bluenose back then, but as if lol, there’s like three that exist. XD

The dude who invented Chinese communism- Mousey Tongue.

@Symbeline I don’t know too much about stamps, just enough to find out certain things, so I’m no expert.

However, Bluenose has a Wikipedia entry, that shows it on a stamp. That particular stamp is going for $150 to $250 in mint/unused condition at the moment, give or take.

True story at the mention of Sir Winston Churchill – a radio broadcast was made some years ago in my area, in which the presenter went about asking random people if they knew who Winston Churchill was. One suggested that he was a pop star. Would you believe that that person was a university student? My Mom’s Dad and my Dad’s Dad were both involved in the Second World War, so it was my business to know exactly who Goering, Rommel, Hitler, Roosevelt, etc et al were. Saddening that such a catastrophic prolonged period of absolute death and destruction can be ignored or unknown or not considered part of something that needs to be known.

@Kardamom Come on, mention Beethoven, Bach and Mozart skip to Elvis but where’s Vivaldi?

WestRiverrat's avatar

@lightsourcetrickster in the bar having a drink with Lewis, Wagner and Tchaikovsky.

Kardamom's avatar

@lightsourcetrickster I would think of Vivaldi, but I don’t think the general public would. So unfortunate : (

lightsourcetrickster's avatar

@Kardamom Probably. But they keep killing Vivaldi’s stuff in almost every furniture advert when it’s on the TV. I hate it when they use decent music of any kind in an advert, it kind of ruins the music. Seems some of us are destined to associate winter with diamonds and summer with a darn sofa.

In one of those weird coincidences that sometimes happen I was researching contemporary art today and I found this mural of Tank Man revisited. Now he is being mowed down by a cheery tank full of robot toys Anti-consumerism message possibly? I can’t see the details but the caption says that he is now carrying Fair Trade bags. Seems he is still topical….better make sure you get that stamp if it comes out
I just noticed that the part of the mural with tank man is cut off. Here is a better pic.
