Do you feel like you have been and/or currently are a victim of "favortism/double-standards" on fluther?

Nah! it’s just not that important to me.
Whenever I misspell favoritism, I get modded. It is really annoying, double-standard-wise.
@gailcalled I’m hurt, you never correct me anymore, or did I just become so good at it?
@Shippy: OK..“I’m hurt. You….anymore; or did I…? ”
Never accuse me of not being an equal-opportunity critic.
We just had this discussion. It didn’t turn out well.
@gailcalled: A semi-colon connects two independent clauses; there is no need for a coordinating conjunction.
Not at all.
I’m just here for the fun and cerebral and humorous stimulation.
I don’t play into any status/ popularity games and I don’t give a flying fuck what others think of me, I have been suspended once for 2 weeks for going off topic and a little pissy aggression towards a few obnoxious other members that are gone now.
I take my lumps as they come, and have zero bias towards anyone here or the mods.
I have been the “victim” of a few ridiculous others pm’s asking me to not participate in their questions because they have the emotional IQ of a baby turnip, I take it in stride.
I am more likely to humor the difficult types but will, on occasion, give em’ both barrels.
My ego is pretty tame, but I don’t suffer fools gladly.
A privilege of middle age. haha
If someone is not happy or overly attached to some sort of guru status, I say move on.
No brownie points for being an online martyr. lol
Okay…admittedly, it is well known that @gailcalled‘s cat Milo and my goose Marwyn are THE celebrity pets of Fluther. haha
ha ha @coloma or a fathers fart, my new saying.
Hecks no! Where would it get me if I felt I were a victim…. more lurve…. I doubt it.
I got cake… I’m happy : )
Here’s where Milo parks himself when questions like this resurface.
@gailcalled loll, kinda like an outsider looking in huh?
@gailcalled : You probably think I’m a whippersnapper now, but the semi-colon is my favorite!
@Coloma: “the emotional IQ of a baby turnip.” Wonderful turn of phrase!!
@bookish1 I abhor semi-colons. They encourage run-on sentences. ~
@Self_Consuming_Cannibal No, I haven’t felt that way. When I was new to the site, I asked some silly questions that were standard meat on other sites but were quickly flagged here. My question about an 800 pound gorilla all made out of Froot Loops cereal never made out of editing and had to be abandoned. :( I took it as a sign I was in a higher league here and changed the type of questions I asked and the answers I gave.
@Hawaii_Jake : How do semi-colons encourage run-on sentences any more than commas do? I grade undergrads’ papers for a living, and when my students write run-on sentences, it is not because they are misusing semi-colons. It’s because they have no idea of the difference between a comma and a period, and are completely oblivious to the use of conjunctions.
I’m sorry to hear that your question about a Froot Loop gorilla had to be abandoned! Was it rejected because of silliness???
@Hawaii_Jake I’m surprised I think that question would go down well here
@bookish1 I hope you know I was saying that in jest, thus the tilde. (I was a professional copy editor for 4 or 5 years, by the way.)
Alas! The 800 pound Froot Loop gorilla was not meant to be on dear old Fluther. It did not prompt a meaningful discussion, I believe.
@Hawaii_Jake : Oh, gotcha. I missed the tilde. And editors are bad ass ;)
I’ve been on the upside of that, but it wasn’t anything that’s not available to everyone if they just ask.
I find it very disrespectful to the OP that this thread has been hijacked to discuss punctuation marks. I have an opinion about semicolons and run-on sentences, but this is not what this thread is about.
This question is very similar, but not identical, to the other question mentioned above. Just because they both have the word favoritism, it doesn’t mean that they both approach it in exactly the same manner. This question is more subjective, the other question was more general.
Out of 24 answers just @Coloma and @Hawaii_Jake have actually answered the question.
As for my answer, yes, I have experienced some double-standards here. I have said this before and have voiced my opinion about arbitrary moderation in every opportunity I’ve had, but by no means it is something that happens to me all the time, so I can live with it for the time being. It doesn’t stop me from having fun here. It’s really not a biggie if you are not in it for the popularity or if you are not starving for lurve.
@Yeahright It is under social so, you know lighten up?
ops my bad its under Meta
All the punctuation comments and idile chit chat can be flagged as off-topic. `just sayin’
@Shippy This is Meta. I am voicing my opinion. No need to lighten up. Please avoid confrontation.
@Ela I’m sure the mods will look into it later on.
@Yeahright I just said that read above. Why on earth would I want to confront you? This is also off topic by the way.
@Yeahright We posted at the same time. I saw your correction after I posted mine. If you don’t want to confront me don’t ask me to lighten up. Anything else we can do on PMs.
Well then…it’s a wrap! :-D
Not really a double standard. But nonsensical standards? Sure.
Still, it’s better than the alternative.
I might feel like that if I ever get a notification or a warning from mods or staff that includes the word Mjölnir.
Until then, I’ll keep on kicking zombie ass.
because as I understand, this IS a thread about posteriors now…
Just for future reference, rules for Meta questions are usually the same as Social questions. Unless the asker states in the question that they’d like it treated as if it were in the General section. :)
It’s evident that several people do feel there is favoritism or a double standard here, because this type of question is asked fairly regularly. I think a big part of the issue is that people only know when they get modded, and are not necessarily privy to all of the other instances of moderation that happen on a daily basis. It makes them think that they get modded more often, or less fairly, than others here. Despite our assurances that it just isn’t so, we never can convince some folks.
Just to give you a little perspective, the mod team gets about 100 moderation emails every day. Clearly, there is a lot of moderation going on around here, and most of it you’ll never even be aware of. So when you get modded, try to remember that your case is only one of many, many instances of moderation.
Holy crap !
(That’s the exact same reaction I had to the other thread linked, btw)
@augustlan For the record, I wasn’t trying to infer directly or indirectly that I am a victim of such actions. I was just asking how other “flutherers” felt about this.
Everybody knows I am Fluther’s favourite. Observe: even now, Fluther is warning me to look busy as the boss is approaching. Sometimes it compliments my hair. I know for a fact Fluther loves me.
@augustlan thank you for your reminder but I wasn’t actually referring to the rules of Meta as such, but more as to being fair with the OP and addressing his question directly and not derailing the thread. You know the old “don’t do unto others what you wouldn’t like done unto you”. The underlying message of most comments was something like: this question has been asked before we are not going to answer it yet again, we are going to pretend you didn’t ask that so we are just going to go ahead and talk about something else, namely spelling, punctuation marks and sentence structure, we are going to make fun of this, etc. What puzzles me (yeah re to another recent question) is that some people have nothing to contribute to the actual question and yet choose to participate in the thread instead of just ignore it.
@Yeahright I don’t know what you’re talking about – Argo was a fine movie and kudos to Ben Affleck on his direction and Oscar nomination.
I though Ben Affleck was an insurance agent.
Or a horse.
@Yeahright You can always apply to be a mod you know?
Again?? Didn’t you already do this?
Could someone please PM me a link to which @syz‘s comment is referring to. Thanks : )
Threads such as these are good. They have a tendency to bring out a persons true colors, IMHO.
@Ela I totally agree with you.
No, but I tend to follow the rules of Fluther, and I think about how I am going to word my posts, before I post. It is never my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I do like to be honest with people. I think we can all be honest with people without resorting to insults. So if we all pay attention to what we say and how we are saying it, there shouldn’t be any problems.
@zensky I always had a thing for Emma Peel. But she was always hanging out with another Steed. Not Secretariat.
@gailcalled something about Milo’s ears in that photograph reminded me of this .
@wundayatta : Me too. Woof. She could kick my ass any day… And don’t worry. Steed is actually a poofter.
@wundayatta Just because Ms. Peel is the daughter of a Knight does not make her Lancelot.
but it still makes her the daughter of a knight
I’m so gonna zombie your ass @Symbeline for derailing the thread. Meet me here if you dare.
I was already there when the Earth wasn’t born. :D
I did for a minute and then not so much.
@zensky I really don’t care what you do. I’m gonna lance her a lot if I ever get the chance. I mean, with her 1970s self. Which involves time travel. Maybe in your game world.
