What might be an intruders typical response be to being wounded by shotgun blast by the home owner?
If an intruder suddenly found himself with a dozen or more flesh wounds, in various body regions, from a shotgun blast delivered by the homeowner, with the understanding that five or more blasts could follow, would this be sufficient to make the intruder give up or flee?

First response: Ouch! Holy Shit!
Second response: run away if they can, duck if they can’t, raise arms and yell “don’t shoot”.
One would hope so. However, there are certain intoxicants that can negate the brain’s normal pain/flight response.
zenvelo, Hmm, perhaps not typically mammalian, but perhaps predictably human;)
Oh, Yah, there’s the rub. I remember the reporting on Angel Dust (PCP) users when I lived in the DC area. Truly, horribly scary.
1) Stay and die or 2) Run to avoid death and cops
“Okay, give it up already, I guess this isn’t where the party is then?”
I’d call it instant Karma. haha
Typical response?
There is no typical response, one person might scream and hit the deck, another might run, another might become even more aggressive and go nuts inspite of the clear and present danger.
If someone has the balls to break into a home I wouldn’t even try to attempt to guess their response to being wounded and cornered.
Most creatures come out fighting even worse under those circumstances.
That’s why I believe in the “shoot to kill” mantra.
Don’t even pull a weapon if you are not prepared to do this.
Posturing and bluffing with guns is a dangerous and stupid move.
Graze the grizzly bear and it’s going to rip you to shreds in about 45 seconds.
Either run (80%) or attack (20%). That’s my guess. Fight or flight. That’s how humans respond.
Ok. I did a little research. Couldn’t find what I was looking for. But I did find that researchers have about five categories of response these days: fight, flight, tend, befriend, and freeze. Women do the tending and befriending. Men do the fighting and fleeing. Not sure who all does the freezing.
What I couldn’t find was the prevalence of responses to threat. If indeed, no one has done research on this (unlikely), it would make a great dissertation. I can’t understand why researchers wouldn’t have studied the frequency of various responses in various types of situations.
So I’m sticking with my guess. Under attack from gunfire, I think most people will run or freeze, but a small, yet significant portion will attack. Obviously factors such as drugs, environment, and other things will affect the decisions that home invaders make.
They’d be sorry over here. After I captured them I would tie them out naked in the woods, spray them with bacon fat and wait for the cougars to come in the night.
Without a trace. lol
@Coloma I love that you say what I’m thinking.
Note to self: call before dropping in on Coloma !
JK….I wouldn’t really do that, well…maybe. ;-p
Cry uncontrollably and then…..
silence
If you threaten to kill their reindeer they will always surrender. LOL
