Okay, and the Oscar goes to...?

Who said jail?
Answer however you wish, primarily a fill in the blank question.
Predict academy award winners if you like, or toss in a Pistorius line, it’s an open forum…well, kinda.

I said jail. Sorry. <hangs head>

I really want Argo to win best picture.

ucme's avatar

I really want Django Unchained to win best picture, but I suspect Argo has a way better chance.
Daniel Day Lewis would become the first 3 time best actor winner if he prevails, what a fantastic achievement that could be.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I could see either one winning it, really. And I think Daniel Day-Lewis will get best actor.

Christoph Waltz to win his 2nd Oscar for supporting actor in Django…i’m biased toward that movie ain’t I?

The guy who “catfished” Manti Te’o.

I want my home movie to win best actor. I mean movie.

Alas, it was not nominated.

ucme's avatar

@wundayatta The academy does frown upon porn i’m afraid, especially when your parents take the lead roles…shame.

wundayatta's avatar

@ucme Well, I wouldn’t know about that. I guess you guys do things differently over in Britland. But I wouldn’t look down on you for putting up your “home” video for an award.

ucme's avatar

I doubt they’d appreciate footage of the kids birthdays & such like, miserable old goats.

@ucme I love Christolph Waltz! Mainly because of his role in Inglorius Bastards.

ucme's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate…and I love you, ahem…him too, brilliant actor.

<tugs collar and starts fanning self>

Umm… yes. Yes sir, he is.

I’m looking forward to the Bond tribute, rumour has it Brosnan won’t show up, but Connery might, could be the highlight of the night, along with Seth hosting.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

^^ Oh yeah, I get all kinds of excited when they talk about that! Sean Connery is still a hottie, even if he is 150.

chyna's avatar

^I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers.

ucme's avatar

Connery & Moore don’t get along too well, be fun to see their fake smiles.

ucme's avatar

I’m hoping Sally Field doesn’t win, her tears would drown the entire audience.

Talking about the Bond tribute – Shirley Bassey can still belt out a tune can’t she! I was glad Christopher Waltz got supporting actor. He was excellent in Django Unchained.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@ucme Don’t worry, Sally doesn’t win. :)

The Lamest Oscar Host Award goes to Seth McFarlane, with his mostly unfunny naughty-cute little wisecracks and annoying Oh-I’m-Just-Joshin’ grin. I haven’t watched an Oscar ceremonly for years, and last night I remembered why.

I did love watching Shirley Bassey and Adele batting out their respective Bond numbers.

ucme's avatar

Yeah, pleased Waltz won, epic performances in both Basterds & Unchained.
Bassey was awesome, brought the house down, powerhouse performer.
I think they shelved the Bond tribute because Connery & Brosnan’s no show meant it had little credibility, shame that. Loved Adele too, go gal.
I thought Seth was funny throughout, so he ruffles a few feathers…that’s what comedy’s all about.
@WillWorkForChocolate Yeah, relief all round on that one.

My favorite moments were the wins for Anne and Christolph, Adele’s performance, and the wrong yet oh so hilarious joke about Lincoln!

ucme's avatar

I liked the gag about that 9yr old kid being a little too young for George Clooney.
Naomi Watts wasn’t happy with the boob song, her face was like thunder, loved Ted as well.

wundayatta's avatar

Wow, @ucme. Did you stay up for the whole thing?

I thought the premise about Seth doing a bad job, and Capn Kirk trying to straighten him out was a clever idea, but it didn’t work. I don’t think they should have given him all those bad jokes to start off with. I think the theory was to start bad and improve, but they should know that first impressions set the tone for the evening and are really hard to recover from. Where is Johnny Carson when we need him?

It must be really hard to be the Oscars host. I can imagine that hardly anyone wants to take the job. There is little chance you will do well enough to enhance your reputation and a huge chance you’ll make yourself look bad. Anyway well known enough to be invited probably should turn it down. Anyway who isn’t well known enough to turn it down probably isn’t good enough.

I thought Seth was innocuous enough after his first few gaffs. I wanted him to do well after that first sketch. I thought it was a daring sketch, but one that was impossible to get away with. It just invites everyone to judge the host, which they will do anyway, so why bother?

Actually Amy and Tina would probably have done a much better job. Even Seth Myers would have been better.

@wundayatta On a Monday morning…not a chance in hell! I recorded it & watched the best bits early this morning.
