Dungeons and Dragons.

That aside…

I love a good round of Pictionary.

HeaBanz is super fun for all ages.

Pictionary is a fav for all ages, too.

The perennial favorite Scrabble, or its sentence-crafting younger brother, Poetry Slam.

Apples to Apples… I don’t get to play that nearly enough. Frequently hilarious gameplay, and it can teach you a lot about how your friends think…

Scattergories. Ditto!

Welcome to Fluther.

Cranium is one I particularly like, and it’s good for all ages from teens to octogenarians.

My adult daughter commented to me recently that she so enjoyed playing Pictionary with the adults many years ago. I do think it’s a game that can easily span multiple generations. We’ve had lots of fun times over Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit, too.

And welcome to Fluther!

Welcome to the tidepool, hope you enjoy the place.

There are some good suggestions here already, I’ll try to add some more that aren’t here.

Scene-It (various versions)
Dicecapades
Fluxx (card based game)
Munchkin Quest
BezzerWizzer
Balderdash
Clue
Killer Bunnies (awesome game!!)
Battle of the Sexes
LIFE (various versions)
Scotland Yard

Quelf because it’s completely insane.

Carcassonne because it’s pretty easy to learn, but is challenging and you can choose to use teamwork or screw over the other guy(s) at different stages of the game.

Apples to Apples is really good, but I don’t think it would work as well with a mixed-age group. Half the players might not get the jokes. And it can be pretty dirty depending on the crowd…

I like Carcassone too. My husband and I play it occasionally.

Then there are the old standbys. Monopoly, Cluedo and Scrabble and the like. Risk is an excellent game.

Don’t forget Draughts and Chess too. Even dominoes can be fun for a quick game while you are in the kitchen cooking dinner and chatting.

Qwirkle is a good casual game. It requires different thinking.

@gambitking mentioned fluxx – that’s an awesome game! It’s especially good for when people are coming and going from the game, because anyone can join in or leave whenever they want without affecting the rest of the players or being at a disadvantage.

Scattergories (sp?) is fun, if the group is in for a bit of a puzzle.

I was also going to say Quelf. It’s very entertaining.

Another vote for Apples to Apples. I don’t think I know anyone that dislikes it, it’s a really fun game that can be played by all different ages!

Risk
Axis & Allies

The key to both these games going over well is playing with people who’s feelings aren’t easily hurt Otherwise both can end in screaming matches or hurt feelings :P

mangeons's avatar

@uberbatman Ooh, I forgot about Risk! I love that game. I used to play it all the time when I was in elementary school, so I feel like it’s another game that can work for all ages!

Other than those already mentioned: backgammon, Stratego, and Settlers of Catan.

It isn’t a board game, exactly.

Pictionary.

@pls52 Let us know how you fare! :)

@mangeons Me and a few friends generally play once a week whilst drinking. Always a good night :)

@cazzie I’ve heard that game is quite fun
