How much does your country's leader earn and is it a fair rate for the job?
The Prime Minister of Australia is now paid more than any other world leader at US$520.837.00 pa. That’s more than Barack Obama gets each year. As well as that she lives rent free, gets her travel paid and I believe once she is voted out she keeps that level of income for life.
What does your country’s leader get paid per year and do you think it’s a fair amount of pay for the job they do? Should people who are elected to public office be prepared to work for lower wages because they are serving the community or should their pay be equivalent to the CEOs of major corporations?
What’s your leader worth?

I think the US president makes around $250 to $300,000.00.
Considering the extent of the job, I’d say that’s awfully low.
Particularly since CEOs, actors, and sports figures make in the millions for, arguably, much less stressfull jobs.
According to this Pay Wizard site the US President gets US$400,000.00. Not sure if that continues for life though.
“The president earns a $400,000 annual salary, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account and $19,000 for entertainment.”
Wikipedia
US Presidents receive a pension for life that is currently $191,300 a year, plus reimbursement of staff, mail, office expenses and travel. US Presidents also receive Secret Service protection for 10 years after their term in office.
Not bad.
The Prime Minister of the UK has accepted £142,500 which is less than he is entitled to.
Julia (and those who follow her) appear to be doing exceptionally well in the pay stakes as far as world leaders go.
Thank you all for your answers so far. Given how much money people with the talents one would expect a leader to have could earn in the private realm, I think the incomes of some of these leaders is paltry.
I am not sure what our actual leader earns. But most Government officials here earns millions per month (in rands). Our country resents this as many are in poverty.
