What are some good conditioners for chemically damaged hair?

Asked by Wine (641points) March 1st, 2013

I’m currently looking for a conditioner brand that isn’t too expensive but still works well. I was born with very thick and frizzy hair that is now chemically straightened with highlights.

I’ve found that Nexxus works the best on my hair but it’s about $30 for their largest bottle. At the same time I’m not interested in brands that aren’t salon quality (i.e. garnier, pantene, suave)

I’m content with a green tea conditioner that I just finished but am still on the lookout for something better. Any suggestions?

I use Biolage leave in conditioning cream. About $14 at a salon in my area. Works great on my thick frizzy hair. Although perhaps if you get yours chemically straightened, you may want to check with your hairdresser just in case.

I love Ion.

Not terribly expensive and great quality.

Sally also carries a generic version of Nexxus Humectress

Not a conditioner per se, but I use Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist. I use regular conditioner while washing and spray a light amount of the mist on after I dry my hair, then brush through. Makes it very silky.

I like the Aveda “Damage Remedy” products, both shampoo and conditioner, for heat-treated and color-treated hair.

You might have to choose between “good” and “cheap.”

Cheap-o here.
Try mayonnaise for a conditioner; the egg and the oil repair the hair damaged by chemicals.

Try chi shampoo and conditioner, or Paul Michells keratin line for damage, super skinny for a sleek and smooth.

I use DermOrganic Hair Repair Masque I just started my third bottle of this and their shampoo. They are expensive, but those bottles last me months and my hair is so soft and silky.

I really love the shampoos and conditioners from wella. You can buy them at some salons. But you should also follow proper hair care guidelines to repair your hair and stimulate growth. Only shampoo when needed and condition using moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, avoiding any products with silicone in them because that is very damaging to the hair. Also do not brush your hair while wet, instead use a leave in conditioner and wide tooth comb and gently comb starting at ends. Three times a week saturate and massage coconut oil (the thick more solid kind not pure oil liquid) into scalp and hair paying particular attention to the ends of your hair. Wash it out the next morning, it may take two times but coconut oil is one of the few things that can penetrate your hair and repair or from the inside out. Vitamin supplements are very important for healthy hair. Take these up to three times daily: folic acid, biotin, keratin, and fish oil. Always use a heat protectant before blow drying or thermal styling and avoid putting it up in a tight band to reduce breakage. If you follow these steps you will see a significant change fairly quickly. Also a good thing to do is wear your hair in a satin bonnet at night while you sleep. You can buy them at your local beauty supply store for cheap.
