I’m organizing a reunion of old friends – looking for a theme. White party in or out? Suggestions…

Every single friend of yours is white?
What’s a ‘white’ party? I really don’t know.
maybe I think they meant dressing all in white
I hope they come back and tell us.
White party is where you all dress in white, have white food. White drinks. – go nuts in one color- could be pink or green etc….
Since most of us were unsure what a white party was, I’m guessing they’re not terribly popular these days. Honestly, just the name of it conjures up a racist image for me…maybe go with another color if you want to have a color theme.
Apart from the chance of people misinterpreting your party it sounds a tad boring. I’ve never been one for ‘theme’ parties but I’m sure you can come with something more inventive than this if you really want a theme. What about an 80s or a 60s party or come as your favourite character in a book.
Isn’t the White Party an LGBT circuit party?
Yep.
Not meant at all to be racist!! Yikes!! Glad I asked!!! Just as a theme – something like a costume party or a central idea everyone could participate in – never imagined it would convey racism! Ill think up another idea.- how about a crazed teenager party ???
Crazed teenager party; that would rock! So it’s like, if some people didn’t have all white clothing to wear, it wouldn’t matter. :) Personally I’d be up for a crazed teen party. That could be cool; either you emulate teen fashion and trends today, or everyone goes as the type of teen they were back in the day. Would be damn interesting, I have to say.
I kind of like the teen idea. Maybe call it a “Come as you were” party, and invite everyone to dress as they did in _____ year. Fun!
Ok so the crazed teen party is a better direction- and thinking about it – more fun – thanks for the input!
And it gives you an excuse to revisit all the dodgy songs from your teens.
When I read that I thought it said white “panties” heheheh. That makes it a completely different situation! Are tightie whities still in vogue?
I like a white party, I don’t know if it is still in fashion or not. Black and white is supposedly very in this season, so you could go with black and white party.
A friend of mine had a pink party and even the men made sure they showed up with some pink on.
If everyone is around 45 years old you could do an 80’s party and it would capture the teen fashion for the group. Adjust depending on the age of your peer group of course.
Is the party at your house? Or, out at another location?
Edit: this link shows invites as recent as 2012.
Truman Capote had a very famous Black and While Ball in the 1960s. You could try that.
I think the idea of all white food is very off-putting, though.
@janbb I don’t think the food has to be white. It works ok if it is dessert only. I would not extend it to the food, but you can do pizza, pasta, cheese and crackers, even chicken. A white dessert table can be very pretty, and then serve whatever food no matter what the color. Table linens, napkins, plates all white is enough. Many people add in silver to the decor if they want it to be more flashy. Can use a silver charger below the plate, etc.
Are you all supposed to dress in white?
@JLeslie I’m sure you know better but since the OP specified in the thread that it meant white food, I was reacting to that.
@janbb I missed she said that. My mistake. Well, I am glad you mentioned it maybe our comments will help her if she goes that route.
@antimatter Yes, that is what a white party is. But, the OP is also thinking about other possibilities.
I think it could be a grand party…
If it happens to be winter time where she is the OP could hang snow flakes, use silver and white balloons, add some ice decorations, a winter white party.
The Housewives of Beverly Hills have a white party every year. It must not be out of style with the rich and famous. don’t ask me how I know this :)
Of course not. The republicans got almost half of the votes in the last elections.
This question reminds me of Truman Capote’s black and white parties, as @janbb mentioned, and also this one from An American in Paris. The hats are especially good.
