Aussie and Kiwi Jellies, how popular is Sistema ( Microwave cookware) in your neck of the woods? (Anyone else using it can chime in also, but it's made in NZ)

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) March 8th, 2013 from iPhone

If you have it and use it regularly, do you have any interesting uses (other than the obvious) or favorite recipes?

Are there any cautionary tales or product defects you’ve discovered?

It looks to me like the veggie steamer might also be used simultaneously for cooking rice in the bottom but I have no idea how long it would take. Have any of you done this? I’ve only cooked rice in a pot on stovetop so have no idea about timing.

I just got the Microwave Steamer from Amazon and I’m impressed by how solid and well made it is.

I live in NZ but have never heard of this product, mind you I only ever use the microwave for reheating food so not surprising I guess, sorry I can’t be of any help.

That’s interesting. I was under the impression that NZ was kind of small (comparatively speaking to AUS. and other nations in that part of the world :)

But I guess it’s a fairly new product.

I’m in Australia and I’m with @Adagio never heard of it. I have cooked with MV for rice before but prefer to do absorption method on the stove top.

I have seen it I think in Big W but I don’t think I ever bought any of it. It seems I have seen it in glass with a plastic lid and in a plastic version as well. I don’t usually buy anything plastic to use in the microwave. I don’t know if the info about the chemicals leaching into the food is true but better safe than sorry. I did just buy a piece of a pottery type stuff that you can use in microwave, on stove top or in the oven. So far so good with that.
