What do you guys think about the new SimCity? (minus all the bugs/server issues)

Asked by Soapy (99points) March 14th, 2013

Granted I was pretty upset when the server issues plagued the launch of this game, I can’t stop playing it once I start. They really did a good job on this game (especially getting rid of the power lines that you used to have to draw.) Once they fix the issues with the traffic patterns and such this game will really shine. I especially like that you can edit/addon to buildings as the demand grows.

I have not played it, nor do I plan to, not just because of the bugs and server crap, but also because the game itself is not up to spec.
– I despise the forced online connectivity for no reason. There is no reason to force a single player game to always be online, save games and leader boards can be synchronized with the servers on demand, otherwise there is no reason why you should not be able to save them locally.
– It is small. Part of the appeal of Sim City was the ability to create huge metropoleis, now all you can build is tiny square villages. I have no interest in that.
– It is dumbed down. I liked the aspect of having to build the powerlines and the water pipes yourself.

Summa Summarum: I will either stick to Sim City 4 or CitiesXL.
Screw Maxis and screw EA for another ruined franchise.

What’s the point in a SimCity where you don’t have to provide water or power?

EA is an atrocious, unethical company that deserves nothing but contempt, and not a single cent. I refuse to even pirate their games.

I’m hoping Civitas will eventually fill the niche for a modern, quality city-building game.

I have never looked at it. Simply because my computer is hanging on by a thread. It does sound interesting and once I replace my computer will have a look. Is it similar to IMVU and SL? I am not very happy with IMVU lately, but overall the virtual chat thing is wearing a bit thin for me. I do like developing though, so have stuck around there.

@Shippy
No. Simcity is a city builder and manager. You start off with an empty map, you lay down roads, define zones where later houses, industry and shops grow, powerplants, schools, police, buslines, ect.

I like it, but I will like it even better after EA fixes the traffic bug and increases city size.
(Oh and when the modders can make it LAN/Offline as well)

They took out water and power lines? wtf was the point of that?

SimCity 4 85%
SimCity 66%….yea i think i’ll pass.

I still play SimCity 2000. porntipsguizzardo, yo.

Staalesen's avatar

@uberbatman That is actually one of the changes I agree with them on. You still have to provide a framework for the services thou :)

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Staalesen I feel like that would make the game rather easy.

@uberbatman
At the start it is easier, but I found it much harder at the later stages of a city

From what I’ve heard, the pathing is ridiculous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d0b41H-Lnk

and the sims are morons: http://games.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=3547181&cid=43172917

No thanks.

You know, it’s funny, I keep saying I hate the smaller city sizes, and I do…but I can’t stop playing it once I start…hours just disappear.

@Kropotkin: I clicked on Civitas and apparently the developer canceled the project.
