How pedantic is too pedantic?

My last question regarding ROMAN CATHOLICS was pulled for editing the reason being “too many typos.” In fact there were no typos, I merely did not capitalize Roman Catholic. Really, is that sufficient reason to pull a question?

“Really, is that sufficient reason to pull a question?” It is. Our guidelines require proper capitalization. Lack of it is something we consider a “typo”. Yes, I know we are anal. ;)
@rooeytoo You’re just discovering this now? 26000 lurve points in?
@augustlan – I love you even if you are anal.
@Sunny2 – I have this problem, I think of great questions to ask when I am not in a position to ask them. Then when I am I have forgotten what it was. Hence, I rarely ask questions so I was not aware of this rule. I frequently do not capitalize in responses and nothing has ever been said, so I didn’t realise????? Silly me. I could say Roman Catholics are idiots and that would be okay as long as I use capitals! You gotta love fluther! (is fluther a proper noun???)
@rooeytoo Look above you! Fluther is capitalized on the header or whatever you call it. But then, in the web address it’s not. I usually capitalize it but I notice lots of people don’t
Someone may want to pull and correct a few recent questions. Daylight saving time isn’t capitalized. It is erroneously capitalized in a question that has been up for 16 hours. Scarlett fever isn’t capitalized. It is capitalized in a post that has been up for over 1 day.
@bkcunningham, hehehe, thank you for pointing out those errors. Perhaps it only goes in one direction, or depends upon the mood of the mod or their feelings towards the op!
@rooeytoo I’m guessing they slipped through because mods are people and don’t know absolutely everything. But @bkcunningham, if you flag the questions, I’m sure they’ll get sent back for correction.
@glacial – really, the mods are just people and don’t know everything???
hehehe, is this going to turn into a pat the mods on the back question?
@rooeytoo I don’t know that it’s particularly patting them on the back to say that they don’t know that daylight saving time or scarlet fever should not be capitalized.
Neither of those Qs were flagged, so we missed them. Flag away!
While we are at it, I don’t think drivers’ ed should be capitalized either and it needs a possessive apostrophe. ~ I am being a smart alec to try and make a point. But seriously, why wouldn’t someone just PM the OP and let them know that they had a misspelling instead of flagging?
@bkcunningham Scarlett, spelt with two t’s, is a name, scarlet, spelt with one t, is a colour.
Please, excuse me. My spelting isn’t the best. ~
You see @rooeytoo just learn from the regulars about all this punctuation stuff!!! Welcome to fluther!!! Ooopsy! I meant Fluther, :)
@Earthgirl – I have been here a while, I just never knew of these finer points. I know about the fine line, I’m just never sure which side of it I am on!
@bkcunningham If I see a typo quickly enough, and I “know” the asker, I will often send them a PM. Something like, “Quick, while you still have time to edit! In your title, ‘to’ should be ‘two’.” However, once the editing window is closed (five to ten minutes after the question is asked), the asker can’t fix it unless we send the question back to them for editing.
The pedantic levels rocket through the roof with certain users far more than with any site regulations.
aS AN ADVOCATE OF REVERSE CAPITALIZATION, i’M THE LEAST QUALIFIED TO ANSWER THIS! ;-)
@Brian1946 – now that’s an interesting situation, can you get modded for over capitalisation??? Probably, it’s all part of that fine line business.
We totally do mod people for excessive use of caps, particularly in question titles. Since @Brian1946 is joking, we’ll let it stand. I guess. ;)
