What's wrong with my teeth?

Do you grind your teeth? Consume a lot of caffeine? The good news is that if the antibiotics didn’t give you relief it’s probably not an infection.
Did the dentist mention a possible bite guard? Are you using Syndodyne or some other sensitive tooth toothpaste?

@Judi I don’t grind my teeth and this pain is not from sensitive teeth as i can eat most of the time with no pain it seems the pain occurs randomly.
@Rarebear the dentist gave me a review appointment in two weeks, I dont think I can wait that long

Are you sure you’re not grinding them in your sleep? Even clenching your jaw can do it. Syndodyne wouldn’t hurt to try. They don’t have to hurt when you eat to help.

I often get tooth pain when i have a sinus infection. Could that be it?

If you had an infection in those teeth then the next step should be a root canal….did the dentist mention that?
The antibiotic clears the infections the root canal clears the roots after the infection and bacteria invaded the inside of the teeth.

@Judi I use oral b 3d which covers sensitive teeth, and its so specific to those teeth and not all at the same time and not the same ones each time together (if that made sense)

@filmfann i’ve had the pain for 3 weeks now and it hasn’t gone so I don’t think its sinus problems.

@nofurbelowsbatgirl I had an infection in a tooth on my right hand side which ended in a root canal, the pain felt alot different, the pain isnt from eating on it either i can apply pressure, the pain is random.

@simon1993 the type of pain doesnt matter if the dentist already confirmed that it is an infection. It could just be the nerves are less or more sensitive on that side.

It said he couldn’t see anything wrong and it ‘migh’t be an infection. But the anti-biotics havent worked at all, the pain just increasing.

Btw, I had absolutley no pain when I had my infection, my dentist almost fell off his chair, the infection was one of the worst he had ever seen.

Ok, well if the pain is getting worse and the antibiotics aren’t working (you are taking them at every 12 hours on time or whatever the script says right? You have to be vigilant with antibiotics, don’t miss any!) So if you’ve done all that right, then you should go back to the dentist. :)

I was prescribe 1 tablet 4 times a day and I took them as and when I was meant to.

Also btw, if you think you have Trigeminal neuralgia, I would mention that to the dentist or even make a doctors appointment so it can be ruled out or pinpointed if that is actually what you have, then your symptoms can hopefully be managed or controlled. Good luck!

You might have exposed dentin (missing enamel). I had that on one tooth last year. My tooth became sensitive to different things. ACT fluoride rinse did the trick. It took about a week, though. You should give it a try while you are waiting for the dentist.

See your general physician.

Some pain in your teeth are related to other issues than dental problems. Sinusitis, as @filmfann wrote, but possibly also other ailments.

Serious pains should be taken serious.

@filmfann and @whitenoise – If it were a sinus infection, it is more likely that the pain be in the top teeth only, and the antibiotics would likely have brought some relief. The atypical pain pattern of being specific to the teeth on top and bottom.

@simon1993 – Welcome to Fluther! Call the dentist on Monday, that will give it a couple more days for the antibiotics in your system to finish whatever they’ve started. You might also want to call your primary Doctor then, since ruling-out trigeminal neuralgia will probably require referral to a specialist.

Sinus infections are most often caused by viruses. In such case antibiotics have no effect.

Tooth pain can be an indication of other problems than those with teeth. They can for instance indicate a heart problem. Antibiotics are likely to have little positive effect on that either.

Again:
In case a serious tooth pain goes on and the dentist has no solution, go to your family doctor.

@whitenoise – Sinus infections can also be fungal; so yes, antibiotics don’t always work. But I have never heard of sinus infections causing pain in the lower jaw, or being localized to one or two teeth that aren’t adjacent. We agree that the OP should consult a medical doctor for further evaluation and treatment.

OK I found out whats wrong, The NHS is the thing that’s wrong….I have a problem with the filling they did a couple of years ago so I need a root filling. I went to private dentist and they found the problem straight away, I have no idea how the other dentist missed the problem.
I’ve now got better antibiotics and hopefully it will start working by tomorrow.So in the end it was my teeth and not what the NHS dentist said. Private dentistry is allot though, costing me £700 for a root canal and two other fillings.

@simon1993 I figured it had to be a root problem. I am glad to know you don’t have that trig problem from what I know it is hard to treat.

Just Consult wit h your doctors. Some times it may occur critical problem.
Make a Habit brush daily before going to bed that helps a lot.
