Have you found a hidden travel gem?
On Friday, my husband and I were taking a drive and happened across Ellicott City, MD. It seemed like a delightful, historic place on the Patuxent River, great buildings, a park devoted the Benjamin Banneker. We’d love to go back there and spend a weekend.
Have you come across any hidden gems where you would (or have) spent vacation time?

Elsa Illinois… just across the Mississippi from Missouri. 20 mile drive down the beautiful river road to a quaint bed and breakfast community. Home of The BEST fried catfish in the world. Get extra tobasco!
Hermann, Ohio. Gorgeous rolling hills, quirky but extremely luxurious B&Bs, and great restaurants. I wish I could have stayed longer.
Confined to the USA? Ivy, Virginia, my birthplace, now has a great restaurant where the post office used to be. Lots of nice places to stay in nearby Charlottesville.
Yes, and I am not telling because I want it to stay that way.
Big Yellow Taxi
The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harz area in Eastern Germany, almost completely unaffected by WWII. The Soviets marched in when the war was already over. There are small towns more beautiful than Rothenburg with hundreds of houses several centuries old. The hiking is great too.
