How do you choose porn? Is it a successful strategy? What makes porn good? Can it be better then reality?

I use a crowd-sourcing method similar to how I pick restaurants on yelp. I find a porn site that is heavily trafficked (eg youporn), pick a category of interest, then sort by “most viewed.”
Reasonably successful.
Depends on mood. Sometimes a quick wank is all that is desired, in which case plot is less essential than visual stimuli.
Sometimes a long crescendo is desired. In that case, story and artistry is more important. So much is mood-based.
An ex-SO of mine and I used to each porn together—she was much more into story (and to a lesser degree, into critiquing the actors). She enjoyed the porn on the screen where there was buildup.
It really depends on how stressed I am at the moment… I use the same site consistently, but categories of interest change pretty frequently depending on how I’m feeling.
I stick to a select few sites that I like. I stay far away from sites like YouPorn, ClipHunter, etc. Trash. I don’t pay for it either. I also have a pretty good Google strategy if I’m looking for something different or specific. I don’t like dialogue or music of any kind, so I steer clear of that. Cheesy lines and corny music just make me feel embarrassed for the actors, and nowhere near turned on.
I’m not sure why others watch porn, but I personally don’t imagine myself in the place of one of the stars, so it’s a totally separate thing from my sex life. Usually I only watch porn involving two men and my husband would tell you that I’ve picked up quite a few tricks from it. I can honestly say that, thanks to gay porn, I give award-worthy handjobs and blowjobs, and I’m damn proud of it. :)
Ok, so I’ve never told anyone this before, but I got into porn through Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic. Links from the kinkier of those repositories led me to my current go-to site, which is still story-based, though not Buffy-based. I started checking out pictures later, but the written word has always been my first love.
@wildpotato How funny. I got into gay porn through Queer as Folk fanfic.
Same as @nikipedia. And I’m not sharing my interests. lol
@livelaughlove21 Fanfic is great, eh? I love that it can get characters together who really should have been with each other in the show.
@woodcutter You’re it
@nikipedia seems logical
@elbanditoroso There is artistry and story to porn? I need to watch what you are watching.
@bookish1 There would seem to be advantages to being familair with poster’s you like and how the site functions. Of course variety is the spice of life.
@livelaughlove21 I feel you on the embarrassment front. There have been more then a few I had to turn off very prematurely, others I just laughed through. What a good way to pick up technique but I suppose you and the hubby don’t watch porn together?
@wildpotato I love that answer. BTVS was the beginning of my love of Joss Whedon. Though to be honest I never have gotten into the fan fic for any show or movie.
But spinning characters from stories you love into your fantasy life seems actually appealing.
@wildpotato For sure. QAF is the only fanfic I’ve ever read, but I still read it to this day. I’ve even written it in the past. I don’t care if that makes me a loser – I like it, dammit!
@rosehips Ha, no, we don’t. He actually doesn’t enjoy watching porn at all – what a freak. Speaking of Queer as Folk, he was cool enough to watch all five seasons with me (raunchy simulated sex scenes and male nudity included), but few straight guys are cool enough to watch actual gay porn with their ladies, I’d imagine. He did watch a video of a guy penetrating himself – with himself – and I think that was pretty traumatizing for him. ;)
^Never heard of the show QAF. I will keep it in mind should I come across it.
I didn’t think so. Hetero guys can be so fragile. And OMG the imagary. I am not sure how that is accomplished but all I’m thinking of is pain and yet at the same time awesomeness.
But other then the distinction of it being an almost impossible feat (party trick) I don’t think there is much purpose to it as he would never be able to get off that way.
Though the first couple times must have felt incredibly amazing. Can you imagine how much time he spent trying to achieve this. And then wow. I am there. I am in myself and I feel it from both ends!
OK now I am jealous and have officially spent too much time thinking about this.
@rosehips All I know is I had a lot of questions by the time the video ended – and I was strangely aroused. Hmm…
You’ll probably never come across Queer as Folk. It was a TV series on Showtime from 2000–2005. Amazing show.
Mirrored bedroom ceiling ;-}
I prefer amateur porn, and avoid the pro stuff. I start with the amateur category on any porn site, and click through to other sites that are predominantly amateur.
I don’t mind the typical poor video quality or extraneous background noises (like phones, dogs, and doorbells) of amateur porn. It is easier for me to relate to, because my sex experiences have very little in common with most of the pro porn that I’ve seen.
Apparently I’m one of the few on Fluther that doesn’t need or watch “real” porn. All I need to do is watch Fran Drescher or Alan Rickman on TV or in a photo and that does it for me. Add in a little bit of Patrick Stewart and some Benedict Cumberbatch and we’re there ; P
Seriously, porn grosses me out
PM me links to the good sites, please? I need LINKS, people! :)
@livelaughlove21 Strangely aroused is hmmm well I think it is a category not recognized and undervalued. Though I have no idea why
@ucme I had a mirrored floor to ceiling wall to wall closet, I thought it would be awesome but I donmt remember loving or it or missing when I left… Why is that I wonder?
@bossob Amatuer site would have more enthisiasm and be truer to life. That is what my friend swears by anyway. It makes sense.
@Kardamom I admit sensualness is much more powerful then overt acts. Despite my question I read all my porn these days, it was something someone showed me and it stuck. I like visuals but the work required to find what I like and at a reasonable cost.. free.. is less motivating.
@augustlan So I have no links sadly. Literotica and a few others provide various authors styles fetishes and what not to those so inclined. Harlequin improved.
