What makes you feel alive?
What rituals do you do to enhance your existence?
What makes you think you even exist?
For me, as always, it pertains to the kids. I hear them breathing at night, I see their smile – or hear the magic word: Dad – and I just know, ergo sum.

I have to agree about the kids. They are paramount to my existence, too.
Hope runs a close second. I lived without it for many years. It was close to a decade, I believe. Now that it’s been rekindled, I feel more alive than I have in an awfully long time.
Can hope be taught, learnt?
Rene Descartes walks into a bar. The bartender asks him, “What’ll it be, a beer?” Descartes replies, “I think not.” and then disappears.
@zenzen Yes, I am learning how to inspire hope in others. What I’m being taught is to lead by example.
@zenzen I am seeing “learnt” around here several times recently. Did I miss a joke?
I discover/learn/experience/dream therefore I am.
My cat is constant companion. All is right with the world when she gets under my feet or crashes on my lap just when I am getting up or plants herself in front on top of or in the way of whatever I am doing. She even helps me shred my paperwork… she can be a bit premature on that front but I can appreciate the gesture. Even as I am discplining her.
@rosehips When I was growing up in the South, the past tense of learn was commonly said as learnt. I don’t know exactly when learned came to be more common.
@Hawaii_Jake I just looked it up at www.grammarist.com. Turns out they are both appropriate though ‘learned’ is more common in the US and ‘learnt’ is more frequently used by the British.
Definitely my kids, finest act my life will ever bring…end of.
I’m supposed to believe that I exist to get by in this world, so I do so.
On good days, I remember that I’m playing a game.
I think therefore I think I exist. We can’t really ever know, that’s why we just have to count on this whole existence-thing being true and continue our lives.
I love brownies, therefore I’m pretty sure I exist. I think.
I learnt something today, taught to me by learned jellies. I always thought “learnt” was backwoods talk. According to Dictionary.com, it ain’t. According to spell check, however, it don’t exist. Therefore, I exist.
@rosehips Learnt is acceptable by unacceptable people who aren’t American. It is old fashioned, yes, but old habits die hard. Once burnt, twice shy.
I’d say something @zenzen But….you only have 112 points so we’re going to disregard the things you say.
Actually, if you were someone I knew I’d tell you to check out the dictionary’s definitions of “learnt” and “learned.” I learnt something. I don’t like what I learnt, but I learnt it.
I was taught that “learnt” and “dreamt” were past participles. What I learned in class today refutes what I had learnt a few years ago. Last night, I dreamed the best dream I’ve ever dreamt.
But I stopped talking like that because I was already far too nerdy and out of touch with my surroundings in 6th grade or so.
Thinking I exist is good enough for me.
I use learnt, burnt, dreamt…etc. I never use the American versions. They sound/look funny to me.
Consider yourself bitten, @zenzen. HARD!
I’m trying to be mindful therefore…
I think @zenzen needs rabies shots because I exist.
You told me to! Make up your mind.
