How do you rid yourself of the stench of a hibachi restaurant?

Asked by Carinaponcho (1381points) March 18th, 2013 from iPhone

I went out to dinner today at a hibachi restaurant that we go to often. Unfortunately I made the mistake of wearing the sweater that I was planning on wearing again tomorrow. After leaving the restaurant, I smelled strongly like oil, grease, and spices. I don’t think the ventilation in the restaurant is very good. What should I do to my sweater to try to get rid of them smell so I can wear it tomorrow without smelling funny?

If the tag says so, you can wash it, or take it to a dry cleaner. Neither option is going to be fast. If you wash it, use baking soda in the water to help with the smell.

Like @snowberry Washing it whether it be regular wash or dry clean, whichever is recommended for the garment is the best way. Otherwise, the next best option I think is to put it in your dryer no heat for 5 minutes with a fabric softner sheet, but don’t use a whole sheet for on garment, because it might leave traces of white on it. Cut the sheet to a small size or put a towel in with the sweater when you tumble it.

Hibatchi, fajitas, anything that sizzles and smokes I try to wear cotton that I can just throw in the washer.

Second the dryer idea. Just check the care label on the sweater first.

Hang it outside and let it get some air.
