Why are my fonts disappearing?

Asked by anartist (14813points) March 18th, 2013

Graphic arts types and computer gurus, I need you. I have Adobe CS4, I have had CS2 and earlier incarnations and have also had various versions of CorelDraw and even ancient things like PageMaker and Ventura Publisher. From each I have always saved the fonts as I moved on to new software.

Most of the old fonts continued to work just fine, but in the past few days I have noticed an odd thing. Some fonts like Engraver’s Roman used to have upper and lower case, but lower has disappeared.

Many more fonts have suddenly changed from being the actual fonts but show up as broken bitmaps indicative of fonts promised but not yet developed.

What could be happening?

The only logical thing I can think of is that perhaps you have upgraded your computers software? Newer operating systems no longer support Power PC applications.

(I may be totally wrong! But that’s the only thing I can think of at the moment.)

@pleiades what do you mean by Power PC applications? I’ve had the same computer for over a year now and only been tweaking it. The Adobe software is older and some of the fonts are new and some are old old old like 1990.

Are you saying Windows 8 if I ever get it will not support Adobe programs? If so, what good is it?

What’s happening to my fonts almost seems like those horror movies where the 10,000-year-old bad guy suddenly ages and then crumbles into dust.
