Is a 6 gallon tank sufficient for a betta?
Will he be a happy guy in there?

Maybe for one Beta, but I’d go ten at least, myself.
Yes, that should be fine. The old rule was an inch of fish per gallon of water. I don’t know if that has changed due to any new technology.
I have a betta in a gallon tank and it’s fine. They are from the east Asian countries (i.e. Vietnam) and they live in puddles and rice paddies so they are accustomed to small portions of water. One fish in a 10 gallon tank is a huge tank for a fish, IMHO.
@Adirondackwannabe: They still tell me the rule you quoted at the pet store.
They’d be fine in a large wine glass.
He is going to get a larger tank.
@Mama_Cakes The healthiest tank I ever had was a 30 gallon tank. I even had angel fish breeding in that. But it takes space.
@Mama_Cakes I’m such an animal lover, I can’t have just one of anything…lol, I feel like they’re lonely. I’m such a nerd. :)
You can’t have more than one better in the same tank.
@Simone This answers that and tank size. Peace.
That answer depends on the sex of the Betta. Only one male can be kept in an aquarium, as males will fight with one another (hence their common name, Siamese Fighting Fish). Females are a bit more tolerant of each other. As many can be kept together as there is adequate room for in the aquarium.
Betta lovers will often use a ‘Betta condo’ to allow them to keep multiple males in a single aquarium. The condo is simply a small container that is vented to allow water circulation through it. It hangs inside the aquarium, effectively keeping any fish inside it separated from the rest of the tank.
A certain degree of controversy surrounds the use of Betta condos. Single condos kept in separate locations within the tank are acceptable. However, when several are kept side by side it can induce males to flare at one another. Some owners, including myself, feel that the stress caused by this practice can negatively affect the health of the fish.

Aren’t betta’s the fish that some pet stores sell in a cups?? :/
It always seemed a waste of an aquarium to drop a betta in there and not much else as they are bound to fight anyway. I like lots of different kinds of fish to look at and that stinkin betta always was up to no good with the “betta drama”. Ten gallons seems like a huge tank to let a betta rule the roost.
@woodcutter I agree, I’ll go with cyclids any day, or oscars are pretty cool.
@KNOWITALL I had a female betta in a community tank and she did well but I was reading that more than one female is going to produce a bitch-fight not in those exact words. I hate seeing fish fighting. I had two Oscars and I got rid of them because they got so big and they are another waste of tank because they also don’t play well with others. And pooooooop! Girl don’t get me started those fish are P.I.G. pigs.
@woodcutter Heck, that’s what beeyotches do when they’re stuck together too long honey!
LOL, Oscars are cool though, like pit bulls, just an aggressive breed (with other fish.)
My Oscar used to take pieces of bread out of my mouth and was the most gentle thing in the world, of course I didn’t tempt him with other fish though. Man, I wish I could have taken yours, my ex got mine.
I’m going with this breeder/shop in Canada. I don’t think that I’ll be disappointed with my one betta, thanks. I’ll have some plants in there, too.
