1)What for??
2)As well, as someone just brought it up on another thread (regarding the pocket knives they allowed): where would those things even fit in the plane?

The head of the agency claimed that the real threat is from plastic and liquid explosives. He suggests that now that the cockpit doors are reinforced and locked, there’s no need to inconvenience passengers (TSA was confiscating an amazing number of pocket knives and sporting goods every day) when it won’t really provide any extra security.
I can certainly understand why flight attendants are against the move. If terrorist wanted to threaten harm to hostages unless the cabin door was opened, they would be the obvious first choice as captives.
They fit in the overhead bin, like everything else. They fit better than most rollaboards. But it’s not like they are easily used on a plane, and that people couldn’t stop them.
T answer your first question: What for? So they can play hockey or golf when they get to where they are going.
Apparently, TSA does not deem these items a threat.
Just what we need…more crap taking up valuable overhead space.

Because with all that clubbage on board any potential troublemaker on the plane is done for.
@ETpro I agree.
He suggests that now that the cockpit doors are reinforced and locked, there’s no need to inconvenience passengers He thinks the hockey&golf players get inconvinienced by having those items as check-in luggage? omg.
Here are the sizes of the overhead compartments.
