I am currently residing in upper west Manhattan. Here I live with loud noise. It’s hard to concentrate. Thus I went to library, but that makes me really exhausted. So would you recommend me any quiet place for study? The rent rage will be from 700 to 800.
Thanks so much!

A Barnes and Noble or Starbucks? One of the Columbia University lounges or libraries?
Thank you for your answer. However, I need to carry several books and laptop. So I need my place to study. Again, I really appreciate your advice.
Grad students often have their own carrels in a university library. You might look into that if you are a grad student.
I have my own cubicle in a office, where several students share one room. Most time, that place is nosy. ... Thank you for your answer.
I live in Ft. Washington ave. around Columbia University Medical Center.
That area is referred as Washington Heights. Which is more in line with the rent prices you stated. I can also understand what you mean by noise in that area. Its like volume knobs in that area start at 5. Fort Tryon, and Fort Washington Park are usually quiet, would also tell you consider a church. As for a new apartment in a quiet area, I do not think you will like your options.
Not the ideal solution, but what about good ear plugs?
Good Ear Plugs can be a big savings, and allow you to change scenery.
But She or He might have other reasons.
Thanks so much for useful and good information!
I have been using ear plugs, but sometime it does not work due to really loud music.
Thanks very much!
I am a foreigner here, so I do not have that much information in this area. Also as an international student, I need to consider public transportation option. Although two parks area are great idea, but a few A train and walking make me to ponder two choices. But I really appreciate your answers as well as ear plugs.
The majority of the city have train access. As long as its not Queens or Staten Island, public transportation is readily available.
Washington Heights is one of the loudest if not the loudest areas in the city.
How long have you been here (New York), eventually you will get used to it.
The other day, I was waiting for A train to go uptown at 168 st. station and had to wait for so long (I did not count exact duration, compared to other station)
If I do not study, then it’s not an important issue. But as long as I need to study or research, I realized I need quiet space for me.
I appreciate your concern and advice.
Consider taking a small tour of the area, or even of other parts of the city to see if you find a place you could try studying at or living in.
There are areas in the Bronx that have access to multiple trains, and buses, are quiet, and fit in your budget.
@JacobSDN gives some great advice that the Bronx might be a good place to try, and close to school. But another good point was that NYC is noisy, and quiet is relative.
Even in upscale parts of town the jerk upstairs might have a conga drum and no carpet. Or you might be in the traditionally proper Upper-East-Side but the 2nd Avenue subway construction is happening 200 feet below you 24 hours a day (dynamite and massive tunnelling). It can be hard to get used to it and most of us are into at least mild substance abuse of some sort to get to sleep.
If I were trying to study I’d get some serious over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones.
Thanks so much for your comic advice and a bit pricy headphone, but much less than rent fee.
