What have been your favourite music artists/bands worst moments?

Asked by ucme (50047points) March 27th, 2013

Either in terms of break-ups/badly advised reunions, deaths/arrests, or musical output…a real stinker of a concert/song/album.
Maybe you can think of some alternative examples of incidents that sullied otherwise impeccable careers/reputations.

Steely Dan put out it’s first album in many years: Two Against Nature.
It sucked, but it won them their first grammy.

The breakup of the Beatles was exceptionally loud. People can speak for hours about the different issues they all had, and none of us were there.

Well, I was just a little kid at the time, but I’m glad I wasn’t aware of Kurt Cobain’s near-overdose in Rome and then his death in 1994.

I am a huge and loyal fan of 311, but I’ve been more and more disappointed with every new album they’ve put out since 2005 (Don’t Tread On Me). I don’t know if it’s their decision or if it’s management, but it seems like they are just becoming a parody of themselves. They used to be very musically diverse, showing influences from jazz to funk, dancehall to old-school rap, but now all they seem to turn out is the nu-metal rap-rock and the easy listening surfer reggae that they became known for in their Radio Friendly Unit Shifters. I’d still buy tickets to see them in a heartbeat, because they love their fans, put on such a good show, and don’t only play their latest singles, but I’m not so excited about the prospect of any new albums from them.

My wife tried to buy me tickets to the Pixies’ 2004 reunion, but I wouldn’t let her. I couldn’t let the memories of my favorite band be ruined by some large-stadium nonsense that seemed completely out of context. I’ll choose to remember a time that I would see the Pixies in tiny clubs that just exploded. A time when you could walk up to an almost-skinny Black Francis (Frank Black) and talk to him. A time when their music sounded like nothing else (Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim).

This

I cannot stand Lady Gaga, think she’s far too bigheaded. Seeing that photo gave me a little laugh.

Also, Ashley Tisdale. Her first album, Headstrong, was actually really good. As a Disney star I expected her songs to revolve around puppy love and not much else, but the music was catchy and the lyrics actually were really good and offered a lot of insight into her personality. But her second album…I hated it! Such a letdown. All the songs are carbon copies of things everyone else has done before – P!nk, Britney, Rihanna, Christina. There was no originality to it. The only songs which were okay soon became bland after two plays.

A highlight was seeing Roger Waters and assorted artists perform The Wall in Berlin after the wall came down.

Worst show I ever saw was probably The Church. They were so bad I left.

^^ I saw The Church when they played with Peter Murphy in 1988. I nearly fell asleep. To be fair, Peter Murphy was a sleepy experience as well. It was no Bauhaus.

The death of Freddie Mercury.

First ones who come to mind:

Michael Jackson – molestation charges, plastic surgery and death by drugs.
Elvis Presley – became unhealthy and drug addicted…resulting in his death.
Freddie Mercury – death from AIDS.
Karen Carpenter – death from anorexia related heart attack.
Sinead O’Connor – ripping up a picture of the pope, on stage.
John Lennon – assassination.

I know there are more but I just can’t think of them at the moment.

Definately Michael Jackson. It was very disturbing, my mom was heartbroken, and it was a huge controversy here in the US, the pedophilia especially.

Yeah, thanks for those.
I have only one gripe, Depeche Mode…A Question of Lust, why, just why?

Frank Zappa:

4 December 1971 A concert fan in Montreux set the venue on fire with a flare gun burning the place to the ground and destroying all his equipment.

10 December 1971 Another concert goer at a venue in London threw Frank from the stage into the orchestra pit breaking several bones and leaving him wheelchair bound for almost a year.

4 December 1993 Death from prostate cancer at the age of 52.

How about the Rolling Stones at Altamont?

The initial Smashing Pumpkins break-up was all sorts of messy. It doesn’t help that Billy Corgan, talented though he may be, is kind of a huge dick. He and all the other bandmates said some pretty horrible things about one another, and revealed a lot worse things after the split.

Knowing your favorite band won’t play as an original unit is sad in itself, but knowing they all seemed to hate each other is disappointment on another level. The Pumpkins current lineup is great, no doubt. They sound better than they have in years. But even then, there’s a certain synergy that is lost whenever a lineup changes, and much as I love their new sound and direction, it’s sad to think that the old band you fell in love with is well and truly dead.
