I also hate when people use the word ignorant as a substitute for stupid when they mean something totally different.
I agree, @JoeyOhSoClever, except when a person chooses to remain ignorant by ignoring new information, choosing instead to hold on to old beliefs because they came first or came from a more likable source.
In that case, it no longer is ignorance but moves closer to stupidity. Or obstinacy.
Ignorance is not being smart enough to know you’re ignorant.

I believe it’s known as willful ignorance, a clear distinction from a simple lack of knowledge in a particular field of expertise.
