Web programmers, how can such a thing happen and is there anything I can do about it?

Asked by LostInParadise (32182points) April 5th, 2013

This is one weird problem, which I am guessing is due to a computer virus. I wanted to use Visual Studio 2010 to create a Web program. I created a project, and just using the default Web page that comes with it, tried to run it.

The program gave this strange scripting error on a dynamically created page. The script page had this ominous sounding variable named BlacklistInLineHosts. A Web search on that name turned up a single match, which is identical to the script page that I got, at Gold Media. Any ideas what is going on?

It would be helpful if you could upload at minimum a screenshot of the error message, at best the code of the page as well. To me it sounds like a social media add-on script that has some issues, but that is barely an educated guess.

The link is to Gold Page Media. Here’s Yahoo’s listing on them, including an 800 number. You don’t risk a lot by giving them a call and seeing if you can scope out what they are about. From what little I can gather without putting my own machine at too much risk, they are in web marketing and that might well include spam, spambots, and email harvesters.
