New agey book recommendation for a book about communication in the business/professional realm?

Asked by emilyrose (2277points) June 13th, 2008

My friend wants a book that can be a little “woo woo” about communication within business. Books she likes are: The Tipping Point, The Soul of Money

Something a little philosophical even bordering on the spiritual would be appropriate.

Perhaps something by Tom Peters ? It’s big on the inspirational, feel-good factor for success.

Why new-agey woo-woo? What’s so wrong with practical?

emilyrose's avatar

That’s the style she is looking for right now. She just did business school so has read a lot of practical already. What’s wrong with woo woo may I ask?

@ emilyrose: good question. The woo-woo I know about offers feel-good advice that more often than not is impractical, nonsensical, or possibly dangerous.

Like Louis Hay saying every illness or medical condition you have is your own fault, a direct result of your thoughts. i.e., deafness = “there’s something you don’t want to hear” or cancer = “you’re carrying hatred.”

Word. I like to have a mix of practical and woo woo personally : )

I haven’t fully read this book, but it’s got some good nuggets. It’s not strictly a business communication book, but I think it’s pretty universally applicable.

Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life

@kevbo: I’ve read that and agree it’s great. I think my friend has too : ) We are so new agey : )

ps hows that cousin crush going?

If it’s been pretty much the same for 20 years, it probably hasn’t changed much in the last month. ;-) Thanks for checking in though.
