Can you listen to this little girl and not tear up?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) April 11th, 2013

We’re talking happy tears here. Listen as 5 year old Savannah takes over a 911 call after her dad calls for help because he’s having chest pains and trouble breathing, but is too stricken to speak. It’s amazingly cute and heart warming how she steps up in a strssful moment and keeps a totally cool head. Her dad, who came through just fine, is a fortunate man to have such a fine daughter looking out for him, don’t you think?

Thanks for that today, @ETpro! Nope, I couldn’t help but tear up. She sounds like an interesting little girl!

Oh wow! THAT is our future president! (And, OMG. She wants to change out of her pjs before the ambulance people get there!)

Thanks for that video! This little girl is great… and hearing her say “So Far, So Good” was amazing, especially since this is something that I say on an almost daily basis!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I found it interesting that the talk show host kept saying, “She says ‘so far so good’ because that’s what her Mommy says!” Ummmm….or her dad?

I can’t bring myself to tear up. Smart girl, but can’t tear up, no matter how much I try.

My social psych professor showed this clip in class. I didn’t tear up, but it’s very cute and awesome.

Good girl.

And lucky thing that she was able to unlock the door herself.

I find the obsession with changing clothes to be a little on the “Uh, priorities, sweetheart” side

Dutchess_III's avatar

LOL! She’s 5!

Seek's avatar

Exactly. A little more “Is Daddy OK”, a little less “What should I wear?!?” would be nice.

Dutchess_III's avatar

She’s FIVE! I think she did an amazing job.

livelaughlove21's avatar

Uh, 5-year-olds have no sense of priorities. They also aren’t typically familiar with the concept of emergencies. Young children are just little selfish people, as most haven’t developed much empathy yet. That’s why this video is great.

I guess I am heartless.

It didn’t help that the call sounded faked.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Didn’t sound faked to me.

OMG, how adorable!

The little girl handled the emergency extremely well especially for her age.
Attention span at that age is so short, but it was amazing that she concentrated or focused on getting her father in a safe place , even getting the dog out of the way for the ambulance personnel.
She obviously learned that behavior from her experiences on how her family takes things in stride by keeping a level head and instructions clearly.
She probably will get a metal for this heroic deed!
I can see her in the future in the healping professions easily.
Thank You for sharing this . It made my day too!

Ok. You got me to share it on Facebook.
Savannah for President!
Edit: I wrote that before I read what the Duchess wrote.

I’ve already seen that video. But yes, it is heartwarming that the little girl is being so calm and caring towards her dad and not going crazy or panicking.
It’s sweet she even tells him not to worry. I like the fact the dispatcher is being very nice to her as well.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The dispatcher was awesome!

@RandomGirl You’re welcome. She sure does impress me as someone who will be a sharp adult soon.

@Dutchess_III Yeah, the thing about getting presentable before the EMTs get there was precious. Of course, at the age of 5, who would expect her to know that EMTs are among the most unshockable humans on Earth.

@Linda_Owl It’s a favorite saying of mine too, but I don’t know that I was saying it at her tender age.

@Dutchess_III The host was the downside of an otherwise terrific tape. I’m guessing she was projecting, because her pet phrases were inherited from her mom. But your reaction matches mine.

@Random1324 Oh, no need to try if it doesn’t move you that way. I’m just sappy, I guess.

@livelaughlove21 I probably wouldn’t tear up in class either. Glad to hear your prof. agrees it’s noteworthy.

@Seek_Kolinahr I have to agree with Dutchess_III. She’s 5 years old and she almost certainly saved her dad’s life. How many 5-year-old children save another person’s life?

@filmfann Maybe you are. Apparently the press reporting on it followed up with emergency services to determine that the man made it to the hospital in time. Not faked.

@WillWorkForChocolate Wasn’t it. Thanks.

@Inspired_2write Great analysis. You’re welcome. I’m glad that Upworthy flagged it so that I could share it.

@Judi Thanks. I appreciate your doing that.

@AshlynM Thanks.

@Dutchess_III I’ve heard so many 911 calls where the operators were awesome. I don’t know how they get trained, but it must be a good program.

filmfann's avatar

The acoustics on the call don’t sound right. I am guessing it was rerecorded later for broadcast. I am not saying the event was faked, but that the call isn’t the original.

ETpro's avatar

@filmfann It sound like a rerecorded playback of the original where the hostess can jump in with commentary at any point. THat certainly doesn’t rob it of authenticity, though.

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Angel on earth. And so are the 911ers!

filmfann's avatar

@ETpro Telephones don’t have great microphones. The result is the higher frequency tones are cut off, giving a telephone call an easily identifiable acoustic sound. I am not hearing that in the girls voice and breath.

ETpro's avatar

@filmfann It’s a cell phone call recorded by the 911 facility, Believe whatever you wish, though.

filmfann's avatar

@ETpro Hmmm, 911 calls from cell phones routinely go to the highway patrol, but you believe whatever you’re told without questioning or examining it.

livelaughlove21's avatar

What the hell does it matter either way?

Dutchess_III's avatar

@filmfann…we hear excerpts of 911 calls all the time. They may have enhanced this one, but so?

filmfann's avatar

It seems like they are purposely playing on peoples emotions. Why? I have no idea.

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s a good story.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@filmfann I don’t think anyone would be too broken up or feel cheated if it were fake. So, like I said, who cares either way?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Hey…we all cried over Old Yeller and it wasn’t real! It was a good story, though.
