What will and won't you pay for online?

Asked by zenzen (4087points) April 12th, 2013

Almost anything can be gotten for free online. Almost. Some things must be paid for – or else downloaded illegally – in order to interact with some websites, graphic cards come to mind.

What have you paid for and can recommend? What have you paid for and feel were ripped off?

The items I purchase online in which I’m usually satisfied with:
Books
Music/Movies
Collectible Items
Video Games
Posters/Prints

The items I purchased in which I felt ripped off were:
A custom neon clock – it arrived with arms that would not turn. The seller disappeared (Ebay).
DVD’s from Ebay – they turned out to be bootlegged.

The things I tend not to want to purchase online are electronics, if expensive (like a PC). Well, anything really expensive…I’m too worried about getting ripped off or having issues with the warranty on the item. Clothing is something else I have rarely purchased online (unless it’s a special custom t-shirt) because I like to see and feel the clothing, in person, before buying.

I enjoy shopping for second-hand aloha shirts on eBay.

I love getting free books on my Kindle, which I bought from Amazon.

I like reading the news for free from newspapers like the Washington Post.

There’s an endless supply of information that’s free. I love it all.

What I won’t pay for is information, like journal articles for school.

I’ll pay for pretty much anything else.

I thought I was changing my address on the US Post Office site, but it was a scam and charged my credit card $19.95!

Will pay for: Most goods and services. I don’t buy any media that’s not digital anymore; I may prefer to buy things in person that I can actually touch and try out for big ticket purchases—and maybe go home and buy it off amazon instead if the place i found it isn’t a local business

Won’t pay for: Porn.

I haven’t paid for anything online, unless you count Comcast services. My husband uses various sites to pay our bills, but I believe they are free.

If I was charged to use the internet, including Q & A sites, I would stop using it.

I love online shopping. I can usually find exactly what I need, and there are no frustrating trips to multiple stores, traffic, parking lots, or cash register queues. I buy just about everything over the internet—clothes, shoes, and homewares.

I won’t, however, buy anything when the colors really matter—as examples, rugs, upholstered furniture, or curtains. Colors don’t always convey well on a computer screen, and the outcome can be very disappointing.

I’m an amazon junkie. Sometimes I look at my account and see how much I’ve spent and then I freak out and decide not to look any further.

Definitely, prostitution still needs to be COD. Since I detest that, there isn’t anything I won’t shop online for so long as the price plus shipping is less than what it would cost to buy it locally.
