What does "outside of the master calendar" mean?

For one of my law classes we are supposed to visit a court in trial. It may either be a civil or criminal case. However, the assignment states that we will not get credit for a small claims court outside of the master calendar. What does that mean? I went to a trial about a rent dispute. No attorney’s were present; just the plaintiff and defendant. Is this okay?
