Where do the sandbags go when the floodwater recedes?
I’m assuming the sand is dumped back where it came from?
Why aren’t the bags reused? Is it due to wear and tear? Is the contaminated water an issue on the bags? Are the bags recycled?
There is a lot of sandbagging going on here in the Midwest and these are my questions.

They are considered contaminated and have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. The sand and gravel inside them are also considered hazardous waste.
You couldn’t tell that by watching Rick Sanchez during a storm. Don’t drink that Ricky!
They bring them to the cereal factory, add water and a little wheat, and they become Cheerios.
It gets collected by the Sandman who then throws it into little kids’ eyes to make them go to sleep.
@WestRiverrat Disposed where though? I would think if the sand was poured back out, after rains and drying the sand would clean itself basically.
I don’t know why people aren’t answering this Q seriously, it’s a good question.
Here is what Nebraska has to say on the topic.
The sand goes to EPA approved dumpsites.
Thanks for the info. (and jokes- I did ask in social. This time I don’t mind @JLeslie) :)
Great question. Recently i’ve been wondering why water doesn’t find its way between the sandbags.
