Australians: How do I get a fluorescent globe that isn't dull and green?

Asked by trailsillustrated (16804points) April 26th, 2013

I just moved back home. I am in shock about the energy rates, my house is provided with fluorescent globes that provide a very dim, greenish light. What can I buy that will be warmer and brighter? ( when I was told of a friend’s energy bill, honestly I had to sit down)

USA answer, look for CFL bulbs with a 3000* K or LESS for “color temperature”. The blues and greenish color come from CFL’s at slightly higher * K, the bulb come with up to 6500 *K which is called “daylight” by some.

Are you talking the long tube fluorescents, or the compacts, I’m using compacts and you can buy them in a warm soft yellow light instead of the cold ones. Led are also becomming popular but they need rewiring of your lights and each bulb is very expensive as well. Yes we are seriously considering getting a grid connected 5 kw PV array on our roof as the cost of electricity is astounding.
Makes you a lot more energy conscious.
