Ha, I love those things, horrendous grammar and all. I’ve done all of those things. I still do #1 quite often.

I’ve done all but number 3.

I was a weird kid, and used to read anatomy books. I don’t remember not smugly announcing to adults that the heart doesn’t really look like that.

DominicX's avatar

Yes, I’ve done all those. I just did #4 not too long ago… :P

tups's avatar

I’ve done it all.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr I don’t remember actually believing a real heart looked like that either. I may have at one time, but I don’t remember it. Mom wasn’t squeamish about leaving anatomy books laying around.

As an aside, I have a book I’ve had since the kids were small called “Secrets of the Human Body.” Couldn’t help but notice that it sure got a lot of wear and tear as each kid passed through puberty! :)

AshLeigh's avatar

Don’t remember ever doing 3 or 5.

Dutchess_III's avatar

^^^Betcha try to do 5 soon! :)

AshLeigh's avatar

It’s on my to do list.

I missed out on Items 4 and 5. I guess I just never found electricity all that interesting.

But, I did believe that trees make the wind. They’d flap their branches and leaves, sort of like us using a paddle fan on a hot day, and make it windy.

All except for 3

Ha, I went a step further with the fridge thing when I was a teen, emptied the entire contents including any shelves, climbed inside & closed the door…not only does the light go out, but your nipples harden like hat pegs & your mum screams a lot :-(

One of the funniest lines I ever heard in a sitcom was that one show where they had a dummy as one of the main characters. His owner, the ventriloquist carried him around. One time he shoved the dummy in the refrigerator and slammed the door. The dummy yelled through the door, “Hey! Did you know the light stays on when you shut the door?!”

@ucme…that was a very strange thing you did there. :)

ETpro's avatar

I never tried to balance the light between on and off. But I did plug my finger into the socket of a light bulb to see if I would light up. I didn’t, but my nervous system certainly did.

ucme's avatar

@Dutchess_III Yup, strange is good though, things get boring otherwise.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Were you able to get out? I’ve heard that kids, littler ones, can suffocate inside a fridge. I’ve always taken precautions with old fridges for that reason, but I’ve often wondered why they couldn’t just shove the door open?

@ETpro Ha ha! My mom was very poor growing up. There were 4 girls sleeping in one bed. Her older sister, JoAnn had sustained severe brain damage when she fell and hit her head on some rocks when she was 3. Well, when they were much older Mom said that one morning JoAnn said, “You know, I hadda go to the bathroom last night so I stood up on the bed to pull the chain to the light socket, but I stuck my finger in the light socket instead and there was no light bulb in it….and then, suddenly I didn’t have to go to the bathroom any more!”
Mom said, “I’ll never forget that…all of us girls sleeping on the bed underneath her….”

I was 14 & played a lot of football, I had a strong kick :D

5 for 5. Done them all. The first one will never escape me.

Berserker's avatar

I drew corner suns in books, and I loved adding vampire teeth and bat wings to characters in books and comics.

ucme's avatar

I drew moustaches & glasses on the girls in porno mags, I had a crush on Groucho Marx…what the fuck am I saying!!

@Dutchess_III, old refrigerators used to have latches that required a release action and not just a pull to open. Discarded refrigerators were a safety hazard because they were attractive to children and they couldn’t be pushed open from the inside. A law was passed and they don’t make them that way any more. It also became a requirement to remove doors when discarding old refrigerators. But there are some other appliances that can also be a hazard—mentioned here.

I remember such a death in our neighborhood when I was little—one child thought it was a good joke to shut another one inside the box and then went away and forgot about him. My mother used that story to scare me good about never climbing inside one or letting anyone else do it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, I remember those, @Jeruba. That makes sense. I must have been told similar stories, cause I was scared of refrigerators!

Ayesha's avatar

Haha yes, done ‘em all!

Bellatrix's avatar

All except 3. I don’t think I even contemplated what a real heart looked like when I was little.

Coloma's avatar

Yep, pretty much everything. Yesterday I couldn’t find my sunglasses and they were on my head. Pathetic mid-life dementia moment. lol

Arewethereyet's avatar

All but 3 I knew hearts didn’t look like that but drew it symbolically heart shaped anyway

ETpro's avatar

@Dutchess_III So that particular light socket experiment shocked more than just one person.

Arewethereyet's avatar

@Jerurba we had the exact same tale told to us when we were kids, I’d look at old fridges with terror in my heart!!

Jeruba's avatar

Uh-oh, @Arewethereyet, I thought it really happened in our community. Well, the story worked, anyway.

Arewethereyet's avatar

Sure did and I’m sure some poor kid somewhere did suffocate and we have the same law about removing the door of a fridge that has died.

Plucky's avatar

Yes, I’ve done all of them. I thought it was normal.

Dutchess_III's avatar

It was normal, @Plucky. :)

poisonedantidote's avatar

Never done number 4. Instead I opened the fridge and looked for a mechanism by the hinge top and bottom, and found a switch that I pushed with my finger.

Plucky's avatar

@Dutchess_III When we first moved into our house, 3.5 years ago, we had all new major appliances. I was so excited about the fridge (it was much bigger than our tiny apartment fridge and so shiny/new). When first using the fridge, I tested the light to see when it would shut off in relation to how much the door had to close. Why? Because I was curious. :P

Paradox25's avatar

I’m guilty of #1, especially when I’m stressed out. I’d done #4 as a kid a few times, but only because I wanted to see what caused the fridge light to turn on and off. After a few times when I’d discovered the mechanism that operates the light I finally stopped doing this. I still do #5 just for the heck of it sometimes. I can’t ever recall doing #2 and believing in #3.
