Who do you think they should cast for the role of Christian Grey from the book 50 shades of Grey?

I know some people didn’t like the book and aren’t fond of him either. I’m on the second part and so far so good. Please no spoilers! If you don’t like him that’s okay, I was just wondering who you’d like to see playing him in the movie.
I read a while ago that Ryan Gosling has made the list among other choices. So what do you think?

Oh, God, they’re making a movie?!?
Jack Black and Barry White
@Ayesha Who would you like to see play him? I thought of one: a younger Mickey Rourke.
Dick Cheney, he has a porn name already…always a good place to start.
The actor who played Peter Petrelli on “Heroes.”
According to this article, he’s already been chosen. I was rooting for Ian Somerhalder myself, but I never read the books so I wouldn’t know who would be best. Those books are an embarrassment to the BDSM community.
Who? It will be Tom Cruise.
@livelaughlove21 If you didn’t read the books, how do you know they’re an embarrassment?
Haha I read the first book mills and boon on crack! Worst book I’ve ever read the thought of two more makes me gag. As for the movie I have to admit I got off in Mikey R ouke in 91/2 weeks but how he looks now oooo yuck. I think Ian Sommerholder would be hot too, or Antonio (a bit old now though)
@WillWorkForChocolate I read enough of it to know. Plus, many people in the BDSM community agree that this book is far from an accurate depiction of the lifestyle. And it’s an embarrassment because it is presented as a realistic representation, and people look at it as such.
Then they didn’t read it right. It’s not supposed to represent a normal BDSM lifestyle. It’s about a dominant who has a lot of emotional baggage that has really fucked him up, and meets a woman who begins to help him work through it.
You can’t really understand the whole of it, unless you read the whole trilogy. I’ll admit the first book was pretty rough to get through, but after finishing the third one, it was very satisfying.
Regardless of what the author may or may not have meant to do, readers actually believe that this is what BDSM is. And it’s not.
Don’t believe me? Look here, here, here, and here.
I’m not here to argue that they’re shitty books. I just made an explanatory comment about why I hadn’t read them after contributing to the discussion in an appropriate manner.
I’m not saying I don’t believe you, not at all. I’m just saying that I think a lot of people either didn’t read enough of it to understand what the books were really about, or that they read the whole trilogy but just flat out don’t get the subtext.
I wanted either Henry Cavill or Ian Somerhalder for the role, but I guess we’ll have to accept the man they chose. I’ve never heard of him.
He just seems to fit the image I have of Christian in my head much more than this Alex guy.
So who has actually been cast?
Alex Pettyfer, apparently. I’ve no idea who he is, but I hope he really studies the material and has the acting chops to pull it off.
Oh, strange choice. He’s just a kid my teens have the hots for him!!
He’s 23. Wasn’t Christian in his late 20’s? And Anastasia was in her early 20’s, right? Seems like a strange choice. He’s not old enough. Anyone worried they’re going to turn this into some movie for teens? Twilight Part Deux?
How awful if they target teens
It would be hard to do with all the bondage and period sex (still trying to get over reading that scene), but I wouldn’t put anything past them. A 23-year-old Christian would hardly be the Christian in the book. And this Alex guy looks 23, so I’m not sure how they’ll remedy that.
@livelaughlove21 I doubt it will be geared for teens. I’ve heard they plan to make the movie NC-17, and really “go there” with the intense, hardcore sex scenes.
@WillWorkForChocolate Ah, I see that now.
I guess I’m just confused as to why they’d cast some young actor that, as @Arewethereyet stated, the teenagers are crazy about, for a role like this. It seems as though the actress picked for Anastasia will have to look even younger than she was meant to be in the book in order for it to look right. With as many actors they had willing to play that part, I think they made an oops in choosing Alex. But, hey, he might surprise us all.
Oh, well apparently she’s been chosen as well – Jennifer Lawrence. It just keeps getting worse. Jennifer is a good actress, but Anastasia she is not. She looks older than she is (22), and she’s not the innocent-looking actress I pictured for the part. Sheesh, what are they thinking?
Oh shit that’s even rotate she’s another teen goddess
@livelaughlove21 UGH! I totally agree with you. Their casting choices are not making any sense to me.
@Bellatrix “Who? It will be Tom Cruise.”
Did you see him in “Eyes Wide Shut”? Bleah.
:-) @SadieMartinPaul I have never read 50 Shades of Grey and have no idea who this character is. I also can’t stand Tom Cruise. However, he does seem to get picked to play characters he bares no resemblance to (see Jack Reacher). And yes, he thinks he can play that dar, erotic, sexy lead (see Eyes Wide Shut). I didn’t make it through EWS, but I’m sure Tom would give being Christian (is that his name?) a damned good go.
My response was very tongue-in-cheek.
@Ayesha I couldn’t figure out all the fuss and opinions, so I went and bought the trilogy. I’m through the first one and into the second. It isn’t anything at all about the BDSM lifestyle. It’s about a guy with a ton of baggage and control issues from a very very bad childhood and a young woman that loves him but has trouble with his issues. It’s a fascinating psyche study. I suggest Patrick Dempsey from Grey’s Anatomy or the guy that plays Owen on the same show.
