It’s very difficult to describe how tropical fruits taste.
Mangosteens are delightful, though. Nice and, uh… sweet. With a bit of tartness that lightens the flavor and makes it more… uh… delightful. Like I said, difficult to describe.
Try one if you get the opportunity.

I’ve had it – not by itself – but as one of the components in the alcoholic drink called “Old-Fashioned”

http://www.slate.com/articles/life/drink/2011/11/the_old_fashioned_a_complete_history_and_guide_to_this_classic_c.html

It was one of a bunch of ingredients, and I couldn’t tell its specific taste form another, It didn’t kill me :-)

Very sweet.
Definitely tropical.
Somewhat pungent.
Kind of Japanese-candy-ish.
Haha…sorry. Hard to describe.

It’s hands down one of my favorite fruits of all time. If you can, try and find a fresh one(I know this is generally pretty hard to do) because canned or frozen ones aren’t a fraction as good as the fresh ones. As others have said it’s pretty hard to nail down he flavor but it has a light sweet almost creamy taste to it.

Lets just say mangosteen is the fantastic, great if your into trying different types of fruit. It’s also known as the queen of fruits. Closest fruit that it resembles in my opinion would be lychee, not so much in taste but in texture. Mangosteen is less sweet, and slightly softer than lychee. But the taste to me is much different, so I’d definitely give it a try. But the most exotic fruit I know is durian aka the king of fruits. Most people I know can’t stand it, I love it. A lot of people can’t take the smell, it smells horrible to them. For someone who likes it, it smells sweet. But durian is quite expensive for what you get and chances are you’ll think it smells like trash.

@Luke86 A couple of my friends were recently out at an Asian food mart and got some bubble tea. When they came over they tried to trick me into drinking some of theirs. (they both had a full cup of bubble tea left which I did find odd since they stuff is so damn good) So I try some and it ends up being durian. They both start laughing as I drink it cause they think it horrible in both smell and taste, meanwhile I was excited as I love durian :P w00t free bubble tea.

Best fruit I’ve ever had was a soursop . Hands down most refreshing juice ever.

@Luke86: Nope; pineapple is the queen, and jakfruit is clearly the king of fruits. ;)

@bookish1 mmm haven’t had jackfruit in a long time…

@bookish1 sorry not trying to be a jerk but, mangosteen = queen of fruits and durian = king of fruits. Jack fruit looks like durian, but it totally tastes different. If I’m wrong show me a link that says otherwise.

@Luke86 : Yeah, it doesn’t smell like rotten fish. ;) Also, jakfruits are much bigger. That’s really the only reason I consider them the king of fruit. Biggest fruit in the world.
