Is 25 minutes for a 5K a decent time?
I am just getting back into running. It’s been sooo long!
I am hoping to lower my time in the next 5 weeks.

Yes. Won’t win you many medals but it is a respectable time for a beginner or re-beginner.
It’s pretty decent.
Don’t push your knees too hard.
That’s very good just getting back into it. Just keep working at it. And listen to your body as you run. I saw an article that said the best runners listen to what their body is saying, while the so so runners try to ignore it.
@Adirondackwannabe that is not always true. My body kept saying to stop running, go home and grab a beer and I listened to it.
Look at where that got me.
@rojo You listened to your body. It said give me beer. Nothing wrong with that. Unless you’re out of beer.
I wish I could go that fast! That’s a 5 minute k! Makes me wonder what times the other responders are regularly running???
It depends on your age. A 25 minute 5K is pretty good if you are 6 or 60 years old. When I was 35 I ran a 5K in 15:59 and I didn’t even come close to winning a ribbon.
Please keep up the good work.
Good health!
In my opinion, just running the 5k itself, is a great achievement. You did better than most, whether your 13 or 49, you did well. Good job and keep it up!
This question has intrigued me. I googled the record and it is held by an Ethiopian and is 12 min and something, the womens is 14 min and something. But if you look at average speeds for 5k fun runs around 30 minutes is the go. So these guys above must be speed demons! You just starting again at 25 is great. Are you tall? I am a little squirt and even when I was young I was more like the turtle than the hare!
Reasonable expectations and goals. Sure You can push yourself to complete a goal successfully but if it is too ambitious Well I personally burn our much more quickly.
I agree with @Adirondackwannabe listen to your body… well after the warm up anyhow. It can be hard to ignore others and people who “are better” do it anyway keep a log.. You will improve faster then you think actually are when envying or when forcing your body to comply with your schedule and goals. The only thing I would really be good about observing is the regularity in which I worked out. And remember we all have bad days. So just showing up and trying can be achievement.
