What do you know about kidney polyps?

I AM CONSULTING A DOCTOR!
Now that that’s clear, I had an MRI for a back problem and in the report they casually mentioned a cyst on my liver . Since my mom recently died from liver cancer my doctor ordered an abdominal ultrasound just to make sure everything is ok. While I was there they asked if I wanted the report sent to any other doctor and I told them to send it also to an Osteopath I’m seeing for weight control.
I saw the diet doctor first and got a glimpse of the report and he told me to discuss it with my GP.
The cyst isn’t a problem but they noticed a polyp on my kidney. I’m not finding a lot of info about kidney polyps when I google it. I AM finding a lot about kidney cancer.
Does anyone know what I should expect from here? Just a little freaked. I’m in my 50’s, an age a lot of crappy things start happening to people. I’m sure my GP will be calling me in to discuss this but I’m leaving town tomorrow and probably won’t be back for two weeks. I think I will go nuts with worry until then.
Will someone who knows tell me that I’m just paranoid?
I wonder what it means that I told you guys about this before I told anyone in my family?

@judi You wub us! :) I know nothing about it but I wish you the best and will send you quick prayer and positive vibes, doll.
My mom found out she had polyps on her kidney through a doc finding a cyst on her liver, too. She’s done nothing about either, though she’s 20yrs older than you are @Judi.
I think the cyst was found about 15yrs ago now. The kidney issues just after that in the same year. So, she’s still kicking. After hearing all of what her specialist had to say about her kidneys, she refused surgery and went on with her life. She’s doing nothing special other than resting as needed when she has kidney pain.
Actually, my medical records from my gallbladder ultrasound say there was a small cyst on my kidney as well. Oddly, none of the doctors mentioned it. I just happened to read it. Wonder if it’s really common for ultrasound techs to see things that are ultimately nothing.
In connection with some other now-forgotten kind of test, I turned up with a reported cyst on my liver. To the best of my recollection, the doctor was trying to tell me that it wasn’t anything to be concerned about, that sometimes they can just come and go without consequences—but he didn’t seem to be saying it very well. So finally, just to get it clear, I said “It’s just decoration?” and he laughed and said yes.
Don’t take this as medical advice and do follow up in whatever way seems best to you—but this was probably 20 years ago, and nothing has happened.
I’m sorry that I can’t shed any light on polyps. But I hope you will stop scaring yourself right now while there’s nothing you can do about it anyway, and just relax and enjoy your trip. I know—easy for me to say—but we went away as planned during the week between when my husband had a sudden, unexpected test showing a shadow on his lung and when he received his cancer diagnosis. Whatever the report was going to say, we couldn’t do anything about it during that week, so we just did our best to put it out of our minds.
From what others have said it doesn’t sound like something to worry over, but wishing you all the best, peaceful thoughts and some resolve on this matter so that you can stop worrying. And from someone who worries all the time about things going wrong with her body, I know how terrible these things can be for our minds. Love and light and sparkly dust @Judi xxx
I see this is from 5 days ago, did you see the doctor? I don’t think you mentioned when your appointment is, and I wondered if you had seen him and what he said?
They called yesterday but I’m out of town. It didn’t sound urgent. They said I could make an appointment when I get back and I can go over th results with him.
