Why do people love Batman and the Dark Knight movies so much?
I really need to sleep lol….
But seriously, why? And for other reasons besides “Because it’s Batman”.
I have never understood the hype. While I liked the Batman movies, I really didn’t think any of them were all that and they were nothing that I would want to watch multiple times. But people continue to go on and on about how awesome Christopher Nolan is. Personally, I know my dislike is a mix of me disliking the film(s) as well as Batman as a comic book character in general.
C. Nolan is a great director, I can admit that. But my favorite film of his is “The Prestige”. I loved that movie. “The Dark Knight” on the other hand just doesn’t feel like a superhero movie to me. Then again, I just find Batman to be an overall boring comic character with no personality. Yes his parents were killed blah blah but it’s just so…....I don’t know…...just dark. Too dark for me to really just LOVE and obsess over, you know? I feel that a hero/movie does not have to be dark and serious all the time for it to be enjoyable. It’s a superhero universe so I want to see a fantastical movie, not a crime drama.
So if any of you are just in love with these films, could you please clearly and concisely tell me why? I have friends that are all Batman lovers, but they are too clouded in their fandom to be able to clearly tell me what is so awesome about it aside from the fact that “most critics agree” and “he’s Batman”. And don’t even get me started with all of the plotholes in the last film….....
Yes, I’m a little biased…....okay a lot biased. I think in a fight, Iron Man would kick Batman’s ass (though Bruce Wayne would kick Tony Stark’s butt in hand to hand combat). Thusly, I will also say that I’m in love with Robert Downey Jr. and his Tony Stark. But please, I need a little convincing to understand the other side lol

I guess Batman is described as a super hero, but technically he’s not, because he has no super powers. He has to use wit and cunning and his natural skills and strength to win. That in its own makes him pretty cool for a lot of people. I always loved Conan the Barbarian for those very reasons, plus all the sex and violence. I like the darker and more depressing stuff. Maybe Batman fans like something that isn’t present in other super hero stuff, can’t really say, but the dark atmosphere is also a different change from a lot of this kind of stuff, and it must appeal to many.
Not a fan of super heroes much, just speculating here. Frankly I don’t see why Batman is such a problem.
Also, because it’s Batman.
It’s not that he’s a problem, but I just see so many people obsess over him and say that the Dark Knight trilogy is literally the best thing since sliced bread etc. I don’t hate it, I just don’t see what’s to absolutely love either
Well, personally, I don’t understand for a second why X Men is so great. I find it so lame; but it has a huge fan base. Different strokes for different folks and alla that.
I know we have a few super hero fans up in here, hopefully they see this question and explain Batman. I really don’t know.
Although out of nowhere, Batman sure has a lot of enemies…Mr Freeze, The Joker, The Penguin, Riddler, I even saw this cartoon one where he fights against Dracula. I’m sure I missed a lot of bad guys. I think those old ass TV episodes with Robin had The Scoutmaster. or maybe that was just a joke The Simpsons made Maybe that’s got something to do with it, the bad guy diversity?
I think my biggest thing is personality and diversity. With Batman, he’s just always so bleh and boring and emo. At least in the X-Men universe, there are a lot of them and they are all very different from each other so there is a lot to explore there
I don’t I hate all batman movies and always have.
Because Batman is sexy. I need no other reason.
Me, I’ve been a Superman guy since… forever.
Look! Up in the sky!
It’s a bird!
It’s a plane!
It’s Pachyman
I don’t really like Batman movies. I have nothing against them, they are just not my kind of story. However, The Dark Knight is an awesome movie because of the Joker.
The way the Joker was played was brilliant, and it resulted in a truly fascinating character, and in my opinion, worth a watch just for the Jokers mentality and view of the world.
It is almost what you would get if you crossed a terminally ill man with a suicide bomber and an anarchist. You get a truly scary enemy, who’s reaction to being beaten up in an interrogation, is to laugh.
The Barman comic books that I love – The Dark Knight, The Killing Joke – inspired these movies.
These were not comics for kids. They were dark, violent. Batman has had enough, he’s old, he’s pissed and he’s not going to take it anymore.
The first Batman movies were cartoonish. It was ad though they based the character off of the animated series. Which, y’know, fine, but that’s not the gritty Batman that the comic boo fans love.
Then Nolan comes along.
After the first I was excited. Seeing the previews with heath ledger for the second and I thought “OMG – the killing Joke. He’s doing the killing Joke!” And then Ledger had to go and overdose. So we were left with Plan B for the third movie. Which I thought was “meh”.
Its like watching batman for as career options… Just in case I get bit by a radioactive spider. I can identify with the fight scenes seeing I was chased by bullies ever since I was 4. Now that I am in my 30’s life has calmed down a bit.
….. but I AM Batman
@Plucky you shut your mouth :P
Michael keaton as Batman was the mother fucking shit!, Val Kilmer was ehh…..George clooney was a joke and Christian bale is just awful…..I can’t get past waiting for him to break out in song and dance like he did in Newsies.
I just hate the voice thing Christian Bale does. It’s so awful lol
My nickname is Superman. It was given to me twice, once at work, and once by a girlfriend. I embrace that, but I wish they had nicknamed me Batman. That is just way cooler.
