In what situations is the saying "less is more" true?

The saying “less is more” is often heard, but when is it actually true? And in what situations is it absolutely not true?

Food! When a meal is prepared, oftentimes if everyone took a bit less, more people could be fed. At a buffet, a lot of people take way more than they need.
Conversely, if there is not enough food for the population, it isn’t enough.

Violence.
Need for fossil fuels.
Dependency. Both on the micro and macro level.
Waste in general.
Ethanol in gas. That shit sucks.
One woman instead of two.
Whenever you have to make a choice between more than 6–8 options. It’s better to define criteria for “good enough” and stop looking at additional options when you reach this limit.
To me it’s most thing’s in life except love, time with friends and family, etc… In advertising it’s length of spot.
I disagree with less is more in regards to food. Nothin like going to a fancy restaurant and getting “courses” that are literally one or two bites. It’s like ok….that was good…now where the hell is the rest of it?

When someone doesn’t wear enough/appropriate clothing for the situation. Sometimes the less of your skin that is showing…the more you’ll be taken seriously.
Less make-up is almost always more beautiful.
Many times talking less is so much more meaningful. Some people just don’t know when to shut their flapper.

I noticed that sugar comes in 4 pound packages where before they were 5. I suppose less product is more profit in that case.
@majorrich We’ve noticed a quiet shrinkage in so many food products. Yet, the prices stay the same.
