Do you have any good tattoo ideas for cities/countries visited?

Asked by owenburnett (183points) May 8th, 2013

I already have several tattoos from literature, music, video games, and poetry. There’s a certain look to them and they all mesh very well together. As I’ve been traveling more and more lately, I’ve been thinking about getting a new tattoo at each city (or country) I’m visiting. However, I want it all to look coherent. I don’t like the look of flags or maps. A suggestion I got was just a word or phrase from each place, but that’ll only work if English wasn’t the native language. Any suggestions?

I suppose locally popular sports team logos would be feasable, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’ve done that several times, but the tats really had nothing to do with the particular location; they were just tats that I liked. I just mention, “Oh I got this one when I visited Hollywood, and this one when I went to Hot Springs, etc…”

How bout the name of the country itself, Italia/Espana…err, Turkey…gobble, gobble.

Most countries have some kind of animal, either real or mythological, associated with it. You could go that route. With cities, I guess you could go with a local landmark structure.

Tattoo your passport on yourself?

Just get whatever images you want done in tattoo shops when you are traveling. Maybe select from what sorts of flash they have available. It strikes me as ostentatious to have a tattoo explicitly representing each country you’ve been to, as if traveling were some sort of contest.

I think it should just be something that inspires you about that country.
Something Celtic in Scotland, maybe a kangaroo in Australia, a bonsai in Japan. It really should be what inspires YOU!
