Have two people ever decided to stalk each other simultaneously?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) May 8th, 2013

If so, how long till they figured out they were acting like a dog chasing its own tail? What made them decide to do it, and what brought it to an end?

I don’t think that would be called stalking then – unless we are talking Mad Magazine’s “Spy vs. Spy”. Ithink that might just be a mutual obsession.

If there is any fact associated with this (pretty good) movie, the answer is yes.

I’ve been in a similar situation, not stalking per se, but my half-sib and I were both looking for info on each other online. When we finally became ‘friends’ we discussed a lot of it, and didn’t get along well, so that ended it.

I think that might be kind of fun if you’re both into each other.
@josie I don’t think that’s the kind of stalking he was referring to. :) Although that is one heck of a good story. It’s too bad they couldn’t have used something nonlethal and then had a drink together. Although the conflict was pretty nasty.

@janbb To the degree that obsession is ever acceptable, I guess mutual obsession is OK.

@josie Ah yes. I didn’t even think of that movie, but you’re right. And it is a great movie.

@KNOWITALL Fascinating. You two had a perfectly reasonable desire to learn more about one another, but then doing so brought the quest to its own natural end. It’s too bad she didn’t turn out to be a soul-mate.

@Adirondackwannabe Yeah. But there are some things you know will not end well.

@ETpro Yeah, it was and still is odd. If it weren’t for the parents giving us different versions of reality, we probably could have been good friends, plus the shock of learning she had another odler sister probably didn’t help the situation (her parents didn’t tell them about my existance, so I had to do it myself, bad deal.)

@ETpro I know. But the beginning and middle might be a hell of a lot of fun. I don’t mind living dangerously.

Probably not the context you are looking for, but snipers do it all the time.

Look up the incident with Carlos Hathcock and the VC sniper that was sent to kill him, or the Russian and German snipers that were after each other in Stalingrad.

Sure. Just ask @Adirondackwannabe about that one night last August…

@WillWorkForChocolate Hey You promised not to kiss and tell.:)

@KNOWITALL Parents, for all their years gathering wisdom (or at least being able to do so) don’t always make the best decisions for their kids. They often don’t think through issues relating to their extended family and the future, preferring to live for the moment. I’m sorry you had to go through that.

@WestRiverrat Right. The real world Russian and German snipers were the basis of the the movie @josie mentioned.

@WillWorkForChocolate & @Adirondackwannabe Drat. I knew I should have made this NSFW. :-)

This has already served as the basis of at least one major motion picture. Mr. and Mrs. starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is one that comes to mind.

ETpro's avatar

@Dr_Lawrence Right you are. Add that to @josie‘s nomination of Enemy at the Gates and that’s at least two movies.

@elbanditoroso Maybe given the ending, that is what the song is about. Back when it was popular, I had no idea what it was about.
