Do feral cats bring gifts to each other?
Itzamna just brought me a baby bunny and it got me thinking, this is him showing his affection for me and bringing me food. Do feral cats bring gifts of slaughter to each other?

I’ve never seen them, except mamma’s and babies, interesting.
Most feral cats I have seen (there are a ton of them in Kauai when I was on vacation) seem to be too hungry to take a food gift like that.
My cat is not feral but he’s brought baby snakes into the house twice so far this spring! Eeeeek!!!
Daww, that’s a sweet question. I love cats. This is my brain on cats.
I remember hearing somewhere that if your cat brings you food, it’s because it thinks you aren’t capable of hunting and taking care of yourself.
With a few exceptions, wild cats are solitary, and I am inclined to suspect that while feral cats might stick together for defense (I adopted a couple of neighborhood feral cats who did this), they would still take care of their own individual provisioning.
I have read that while cats are ordinarily solitary animals and hunters, the have adapted to feral life in cities by forming large groups to find food, shelter from the winter cold and summer heat, and defend turf collectively. So my SWAG is they do bring excess food finds to the larger group. Human modification of their traditional habitat may have given them the evolutionary pressure to evolve into being a social animal.
Large cats do bring food back to the den, @ETpro. Domesticated house cats do the same thing, but I’ve read that well fed healthy cats don’t usually partake of the food like a wild cat would do. That is why it seems they are bringing you a gift. Feral cats do bring food back to the safe location. The cats will fight over the food and will eat based on the pecking order.
@bkcunningham My cat will still eat some of the mice/voles/rabbits/whatever else that he brings back but other times he will intentionally put the animal down right next to my chair. On some occasions I’ve put it back outside just to have him bring it and put it right back next to my chair :P
@bookish1 bwahaha thankfully I don’t wear shoes :P though I have been unfortunate enough to step on a headless mouse :(
