Yup, but it may have been just the fact that it is “plasticized oil” to start out with.

@Tropical_Willie well, I doubt that . I’ve eaten it for many years with no reaction.
@Inspired_2write If it can be in the early stages of sourness but you can’t taste sour then yes its possible. But with my experience with Cool Whip it goes from just fine to black or green.

Before bread “looks” bad with mold , the mold spores accummulate without been seen by the naked eye.
Perhaps same with dairy products such as ‘Cool Whip”?

If you are prone to it, I do believe creamy things can cause acid reflux.

Cool Whip is just vegetable oil; it’s not dairy based. It’s doubtful that it would make you sick, even if you’d left it on a dessert a little longer than you’d rather. I mean, it might not taste as fresh, and I’m sure the texture was not ideal, but it was probably fine.

On the other hand, consuming food which you believe might make you sick can actually make you want to vomit. I am guessing that it was your perception of the food that prompted your response.
