It’s a song called Lorelei by Fleet Foxes. I was thinking its a sort of waltz beat.

Time signatures are whatever you make them to be in the most literal sense. This one is some sort of triple meter, like 3/8 or ¾ or 6/8. The song has “standard” 8-measure phrases up until about 2:14, where it is noteworthy to mention that it transitions to only 7-measure phrases for a while. (These phrases I am talking about are consistent three-beat phrases).

Not sort of. ¾ time it is. (I stopped listening before 2:00 minutes.)

Yes, I would say it is ¾ time.

Thirded on ¾ time which yes, is standard for waltz.

This song is written in ¾ time. There is a strong syncopation, that is, emphasis which occurs somewhere else than on the beat, but the time signature would be 3 / 4.

The song “America”: from West Side Story, has a 6 / 8 time signature, usually expressed as ”one – two, three – four, five – six”. However here (starting at 0:59 in this recording) it alternates between that and a ”one – two – three, four – five – six”, coming up something like this:

one – two – three, four – five – six”, one – two, three – four, five – six”
.

Do I hear a waltz?

@Yetanotheruser The rhythm is pretty straight forward on the downbeats actually. That’s probably why it sounds like a waltz.
